Do you fricking go to Alabama or did you recently? They do this all the time to create excitement for HS students going picking a college. The biggest thing on campus during the fall is football. You don't have a fricking clue when it comes to kids choosing an SEC school for college.

How many big time recruits do they even have in Mobile currently? This is about attracting graduating HS students to Auburn not just athletes. They will have coaches at LSU greet students during orientations even though there are probably no college athletes in the audience.

Do you think the sole purpose of Bama's 12 NC ads during their spring game were to promote the football team?

Yes. Who else watches a spring game besides football fans and athletes? Do you think Jane Doe, with a 4.0 GPA who attends high school in California gives a frick about Alabama Football and our National Championships?

So you take this billboard and spin it into some idea that the Auburn Athletic Department has now resorted to billboards as their primary recruitment method.

When did I do that?

How does anyone even argue that this is promoting anything other than Auburn athletics?

WHO CARES?!?!?!? Auburn athletics, research, medical school, band, law school, business school, why does it matter? All they are trying to do is get a high school senior (regardless of his scholastic or physical attributes) to look into going to Auburn. Once they do, perhaps they'll find that Auburn offers something they find interesting, what ever that may be.

Please don't tell me that you are concerned about the educational well being of the players that Auburn recruits...

What evidence do you have of that? You are making an assumption. On top of that, you are assuming this - while choosing to ignore the fact that Auburn has come up with a new recruiting ploy every couple of months... Tiger Prowls with limos, Big Cat Weekends with Toilet paper, and now billboards. If the shoe fits...

Classy Barner, real classy. I guess I'd be pissed too if my favorite team was in the middle of a downward spiral with a head coach that has a career losing record.

You really must not have any experience in Marketing.

As are you. Unless you are the Auburn rep who cam up with this billboard and know exactly what the intent is, your assumptions are just as unreliable as his.

I have concrete evidence to back up my claim. To go along with some pretty solid circumstantial evidence. The only argument you guys have for it being about anything other than athletics is your assumption that sense athletics influences some students on their college decisions that Auburn was trying to reach those students.

If this were a court case, I'd win.

How many big time recruits are in Mobile that they even want? I think it is highly more likely it is for all HS seniors since every fricking school in the SEC(maybe not Vandy) pimps athletics to swing potential students their way. I am about to graduate LSU and they have done shite like this since I have graduated.

Go find 10 Freshman on campus at Bama and I bet 4 of them will say they picked Bama because of football. This billboard could possibly help with football recruiting; however, it is way more likely to be seen by just non athletes than big time college football recruits.

Oh, let's see... The FOOTBALL helmet, the FIGHT SONG, and "CHOOSE AUBURN". This can be seen clearly on the billboard. Not to mention the crazy arse Tiger eyes...

No, circumstantial evidence is not thrown out - unless there is a reason to omit it. This appears to be another recruiting ploy - to go along with Limos and Big Cat Weekends, and there isn't a whole lot that you can say to dispute that... other than assuming that their goal is to reach students - which you have no proof of.

Because marketers use different methods to attract certain types of people (this one being those students who are interested in SEC football). Wouldn't surprise me if another billboard popped up soon with the same "choose auburn" phrase with a kid in a lab coat...

I'm also good for ruffling feathers, and carrying on solid debates. This is a feather ruffling thread. Let me do my work.

How else is Bama going to get Jane Doe and her 4.0 GPA to attend Bama? Sports. If she wants to persue her education devoid of any other distractions, there are plenty of Ivy league schools to choose from. But if she wants a decent to strong education AS WELL AS a shot at SEC Playmate of the month, she's going to have to choose one of us. And if she's going to choose one of us, Bama can separate itself from the pack with it's list of Athletic accomplishments.

You again have no evidence that this is what Auburn is doing.

The fact that we have more National Merit scholars than any Ivy league school in America. We've beaten Harvard head to head in this area for several years running.
