Pre- NIL and portal, most national awards were won by players from about 20-25 schools. Georgia, Alabama, LSU, USC, Texas, OU, Michigan, Notre Dame, FSU, Clemson, Miami, Wisconsin. Those type schools. Established big name programs that had periods of success. Now though… look at the number of individual awards (Doak Walker, Heisman, Nagurski, etc., etc.)
Indiana: 5
Texas Tech: 4
Vanderbilt: 3
Notre Dame: 1
Ohio State: 1
Utah: 1
Oklahoma: 1
UGA: 1
USC:1
I didn’t include things like the “Disney Spirit Award” or “Lott Impact Award”. Of the 18 major awards, 5 players/coaches from Indiana, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt won 12 of them.
