It's the tear-jerking story that helped inspire Vanderbilt football players to remember their fallen teammate through a fundraising campaign this weekend and coach Derek Mason to pledge up to $25,000.

quote:

Cockrell wore jersey No. 82. When Vanderbilt (0-2) plays LSU (3-0) on Saturday (11 a.m., SEC Network), the game will kick off an 82-hour fundraising campaign for Turner’s Heroes in hopes of funding a $50,000 Discovery Grant in Cockrell’s name.

Mason and his wife, LeighAnne, have pledged to match every donation up to $25,000 through the Mason Family Foundation. To donate to the fundraiser, go to bit.ly/turnersheroes or you can text HERO82 to 44321. The campaign will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday when the game starts.

Great story about what the foundation has become and classy move by Mason. Turner was a family friend
