Like you assuming that Petrino and company didn't have to sell him on playing in Fayetteville when being actively recruited by his former mentor that went to coach at Tennessee or Rick Neuheisel and LA?
Link? It's hard to commit when you aren't even offered a scholarship. Now Nutt and co. knew that Mallett had an aversion to being stuck behind a parade all-american for 4 years. And Mallett said that kept him from considering Arkansas. But he never said, to my knowledge, that he would have committed...definitely.
And what difference does it make? It was like 2 years from the time he committed to Michigan and the time he transferred. And there were completely different coaching staffs. Completely different philosophies. Did Arkansas have a built-in advantage? Sure. Had Petrino and McGee just sent him a text saying, "We'd love to have you. Scholarship is waiting," that wouldn't have been enough, possibly. They still had to sell him on something that was yet to be seen. They still had to convince him to depart from his mentor/qb coach/recruiter from Michigan that moved to Tennesse. Still had to compete against Neuheisel and sunny California. It's CONJECTURE to assume that Mallett was coming to Arkansas no matter what. Please stick to facts and things that can be proven. kthxbai.

So Mallett didn't originally want to be a Hawg and he DIDN'T transfer to Arkansas? Gotcha....

This is not what's being discussed. Reb is saying it was a forgone conclusion. That Petrino DIDN'T have to put in his time. Mallett would have come back to Arkansas regardless of coach, offensive philosophy, or relationship with the staff. THAT'S conjecture.

If Nutt were still there and Mallett would have returned to Arkansas, y'all would say that he fell into your laps. DOUBLESTANDARD and CONJECTUR'D!

according to Nutt he knew Mallet would be back but he was the reason he did not go there to begin with. Hell Mallet parked cars at Razorback games as a kid, I think he always wanted to be a Hawg like the Ole Miss coach. However, Mallet will get the job done at least to a good bowl this year.

Okay...I hate this argument...but I will say one thing. This statement falls back on what another Arkansas poster was saying. Yes...it is the HC's responsibility for the team's record. So earlier, why are some Arkansas fans blaming a former coach for their past two seasons? Shouldn't that be on your HC?
A coach inherits what he inherits and works with what he has and the previous coaching staff can either be credited with leaving a lot of good, upper class players or not much to work with. The best way to tell the difference to see how many freshmen a coach has to play in his couple of years. If the previous coaching left a lot to work with then there will be very few freshman playing. If not, then a coach has to play the young players that he recruited. If you argue to the contrary then you are not being honest with yourself.
It is the Head Coach's responsibility to improve the team from year 1 to year 2, year 2 to year 3, and so on. Petrino has done just that and the Hogs are poised to improve on last two years. I call that improvement. However, if we aren’t better then the blame can now lie squarely on Petrino’s shoulders but one can hardly look how the Hogs had to play 16-18 freshmen and proclaim that Petrino was left with much to work with. How will the Rebels do this year? Will the Rebels be better than the last two years? It's a simple question that requires only a yes or no answer. If they aren’t then you have to determine why. It’s not complicated.

Even Arkansas fans have admitted that the reason for Mallett not coming to Arkansas was the "cloud" surrounding the program between Nutt, Mustain, and Gus.
Not so. Although I concede you are an expert historian on Razorback football, you are incorrect about this. Mallet wrote Nutt off when Nutt had him work out at Tight End at some Razorback Camp. So much so that Mallett left the camp early. This was before Gus, Mustain, and the circus on the hill.

Likely no, and the reason is because we're breaking in new key offensive players.
You're right, it's not complicated. Teams have to do this sometimes and we're doing such right now.

sounds like their arguing out both end of their arse
I'm arguing for myself on what I wrote. I think it is a stupid excuse to say the former coach left the new coach with no talent. If he is good, then he will find ways to win with them. To say Ole Miss fans are arguing out both ends of our arse is no different than what Arkansas fans are doing.....which makes this whole argument STUPID!!!
The way I see it: Ole Miss is happy and Arkansas is happy.
