Mike Slive was very clear when it was announced that TAMU was joining: that TAMU would be the 13th member with or without a 14th.
With that being said, they probably had a good idea that Missouri was their backstop for a 14th.

Mizzou was added for two reasons
1) They were easy to get
2) TV sets
The protests don't change either of those.
