I've said for years when Pat Dye and my grandfather passed a huge part of me would go with them. Just two country boys who worked like hell and tried to do right by everyone. Could both be mean and ornery as hell but you never doubted how much they loved and cared about you (at least from Dye's family, friends, and players) which is all you can really ask of a person.
My grandpa turns 90 in August and is a shell of himself after really going downhill the last couple of years.
Not to get political or anything but with everything that has gone on the last few days and thinking about the future it makes their loss for me even more pronounced. The last of a generation that understood true sacrifice, hard work, respect, responsibility, and that actions have consequences.
They are also the two primary reasons of my love for Auburn. Was born in 82 and my grandpa was a preacher in Dadeville when I was growing up and used to take me to games when Dye was the coach. He loved Coach Dye, probably because he saw a lot of himself in him.
