You know, I think Ole Miss would have come a lot further if they'd had a successful basketball program like Arkansas did.
We were pretty great in the late 1970s, late 80s, and 90s. It became pretty common for the black basketball players to be bigtime campus celebrities, so a lot of this shite worked itself out at Arkansas 30 years ago. I can imagine a similar thing being said by an Arkansas fan, particularly down at Little Rock, where the crowd is rougher and less alumni. I can't imagine anybody saying and filming shite like that in Fayetteville at a tailgate.
I know we have historically had fewer blacks than Mississippi, and racial tension has never really been a part of the community in Fayetteville for that reason. I can say that its definitely different in Arkansas as you get further south and east.
Still, we managed to stop playing Dixie in 1969 because black students protested. We stopped seeing rebel flags at our games in the 70s, without a ban and I've never seen one flown at an Arkansas game in my lifetime.
I really think that some more athletic success, particularly in a sport that blacks historically dominate, like basketball, would work wonders for race relations in Mississippi. I just thought I'd throw that out there, since its apparent that the battle of racism is already being fought on college campuses. There are things that we lucked out with that helped us unite better a lot sooner.
I do find a little schadenfreud in watching this, but mostly I just think its sad.

While I don't support the ideals and views on which the Klan holds, they are a very interesting and important part of American history. I personally think seeing a Klan march in Oxford would be very interesting and a something that can be used to combat bigotry and ignorance of other races and ethnicities. Behind going to see the actual game this weekend, seeing a Klan march in Oxford has only increased my excitement for this weekend.
In closing,
The South Will Rise Again.
...and that's not being racist.

Well the same thing would have happened had the Civil War never occured... Industrialization was on the way up, and manual labor on the way down... But Washington wanted a power grab, thus you have the repressed feelings here in the south that only bred hate and inhibited progress on the civil rights front... Just as the Treaty of Versailles did, the Civil War created more hate and pain than it eased...

I think the second Civil War will be battles between robots.

Haha yeah because I'm sure you love higher taxes, restricted liberties, bureaucrats, welfare, etc.... GTFO... If the south ever did "rise again", it would be over the same concept- state rights... I'm not saying slavery should have ever happened, just saying that's not what the war was fought over... The south was doing the same thing the Founding Fathers did during the Revolutionary War, fighting against tyranny... But it's cool, if you love bigger government in every corner of your life, support Washington!

Ironic considering the conservative nonsense you're spewing here. Both parties love government intervention, just depends on the issue. I'm saying the south kinda sucks as a region (it's poor, uneducated, and well kinda backwards). Two things can happen. The South wins and forms it's own governemnt. I'm going to GTFO at that point. Then the South could lose, and be a huge gaping shithole for years to come. Either way, I'd rather be somewhere else.

Why? You don't even know what the main issues would be. How do you already know what side you want to be on if you don't know what the argument is about.

Good point, the far left wants to take over health care while the far right tells gays they can't marry.

Conservative nonsense? If you consider Libertarian conservative than by all means... But I'm sure by conservative you mean Republican, which is about as wrong as could be at this point in time... Both parties are the same, except around election time...

I do. It's classical liberalism basically (which is your average conservative's wet dream). I actually fall in the line with libertarians most of the time, because freedom is awesome. Look at the poliboard, do you really want those people running shite?

Yes that's why jobs and businesses are moving south right? I mean a who would want lower taxation? Ask Detroit how the whole Northern way of life is going for them...

No I don't, and the same goes for religious extremists! I know where you're coming from now... But yes I'm all about personal liberty and the downsize of the government...
