The closest to Smith on Alabama is Metchie with 6. Chase was 100% better last year he just wasn’t getting almost every target. Just watching the games Chase did things I could never see Smith doing

100% better huh? Najee had 3 receiving tds in the SECC Game alone. You watched the LSU game where D Smith one handed a catch in the end zone over LSU’s fan proclaimed best dB in the nation? Literally every one of your points is easily disputed.

too bad he quit on his team

That's pretty common down there in cajun country. They had a lot of opt-outs (quitters) both before and during the season. Of course it isn't like Chase would improve his draft position playing for an ape or anything ...

I don't think so. Getting his degree was a motivating factor for his return. And, he seems to place team before self in most every decision.

He had a good interview today. Said he didn't mind being asked to play DB early on, he just wanted to help the team. Every answer went back to the team and it lit him up to talk about their success. Any questions directly about him got KD to Charles Barkley interview responses, one to two words max and awkwardness. When asked what he thought after Jaylen getting hurt, it was simply "what more can I do to help the team make up for Jaylen's loss."

Chase has more physical ability and natural gifts, but all of the intangibles in heart, effort, leadership, loyalty, and selflessness seem clearly in Smith's favor from the outside looking in. That is also the reason his story has resonated this year.

So, wondering why Chase didn't sniff NY last year and Smith probably hoists a trophy, loyalty and team player mentality when it counts is the difference in 2020 for many fans and voters; whether or not you agree or disagree, those are impacts to the vote. It isn't a CV19 asterisk as much as it is an anti-opt out vote and rewarding a truly deserving player who best represents the spirit of the award.
