It’s not the same, but it’s also not as different as you claim. Our 2015 team sucked, and 2016 roster was in worse shape.
If DeBoer is successful in 2025 using these same standards, does it mean he was left with a program in bad shape?
Because I remember Georgia being the favorite against Alabama in 2015.

He's also got a pretty good damn record against the Sec west. Look it up

Auburn beat Saban way more times than they have his Pupil

Maybe. Maybe not.
This would require a deeper look.

This is relevant how?

He didn't have to build a program like LSU or rebuild a program like Alabama.
Yeah, because LSU and Alabama never had success before Saban.

It's worth noting that unlike Saban and Spurrier, this is Kirby's first HC gig.
I have a great deal of respect for Spurrier. He helped revolutionize the SEC. One of the best college coaches ever.
Still, in more than 20 seasons, the OBC won exactly one national championship.
In 8 full seasons, Kirby has won two.

Let's compare.
10 seasons prior to hire.
Saban:
LSU: 55-58-1 (48.2%)
Alabama: 67-55 (54.9%)
Kirby:
Georgia: 94-40 (70%)
I stand by my original statement. A build for LSU, and a rebuild for Alabama.

.
Now do the 2 seasons prior. A good top 10 team and then a major dropoff the next year.

Kirby, in his very first head coaching gig, wins back to back National Championships and is the fastest coach ever to get to 100 wins.
Alabama fan - he inherited it.

A closer look would reveal how close those numbers are to being almost identical.

Kirby Smart's also tied for the 5th-fastest to 100 wins in NCAA history.
Fastest to 200 wins is former Penn State HC, Joe Paterno; second is Tom Osborne of Nebraska.
