Kickoffs

Kick offs in CFB have become completely hollow. The only time they matter anymore is during an onsides kick. Why do we waste time during games going through the motions? Why did they change things anyway?

Mark Richt had an idea I liked regarding kickoffs.
Instead of having a kickoff, give the kicking team a 4th an 15 or 4th and 20. They can punt the ball or go for it on 4th down rather than relying on an onside kick which is largely a luck play.
Punts have fewer injuries than kickoffs and can still be returned for a TD (or blocked).
