I'll give you exaggerated, very likely it's exaggerated, but invented is a step too far in the wrong direction if you ask me.

I don't defend the baseball player.

But
1) fields couldn't hear the fan. The people affected by the baseball player were sitting within 50 feet. They got security and the student was removed. The trauma was to the student section. Not fields.

2) the baseball player actually was supporting more playing time for fields. That level of support for the fields family despite this may be why the sister has enrolled, why fields traveled with the team to the sugar bowl, and why the baseball player was properly kicked out of school.
