My guess is they were promised certain things, but then replaced with a more desirable candidate that jumped in the portal as well. Personally, any kid that jumps in the portal should lose their "student" status, scholarship, and position on their former team.

I think you're just wrong about the contention.
Most kids enter the portal for 1 of 2 reasons. To get a pay raise or to get more playing time.
