Whole Hog to me isnt as good as Penguin Ed's or Herman's. But the Sandwhiches are money. It's in Fiesta Square.

But the best part of Fayetteville especially in October is the scenery when the leaves start switching, I was amazed when coming back home after 20 years after going through the Hopper to see how big its gotten.

Haha. Yes, keep Fayetteville Funky. Send the pretentious bitches to Oxford.

I have a KFF sticker on my big ole truck. Yeah, its a knock-off of Keep Austin Weird, but its been embraced here.

Keep Oxford Fratty.

RE: Village Inn in Fayetteville.

Yes, FIRE still works there. He ran for Mayor last year, too. Haha. He has some friends who drive a hearse and dress as vampires. They have done this since the early 90s, and they are usually there after midnight.

Here's a video of Fire at work:

Fayetteville and Oxford are nothing alike IMO.

Here are our rollergirls. A little mean and scary, but thats part of the whole package:

The Arkansas Killbillies and The Backwoods Bettys.

We have a male team called the Scallawags, but who cares about that...

I fell in love with the Whole Hog in Little Rock YEARS ago and my better half occasionally has it shipped to Austin.

Sadly, Whole Hog is about the only thing I miss in Little Rock.

Not true.
We have alot of people who are just your normal college types.
Dirty Liberal hippies, Indy kids, jocks, party-girls, druggies, rednecks.
You don't see those kinds of people at the football games because they either have something better to do (like get fricked up and write music) or dress up like me and duke do.

We have a sick music scene, fwiw.
Modest Mouse, Wilco, Animal Collective, Dinosaur Jr, Manchester Orchestra, Fun. Have all been to Oxford within the past year. We've also got some decent local acts such as Charlie Mars, Sanders Boehlke, and Colour Revolt. All three have made some impact on the indy scene nationally.

Yeah the pecan smoke is really different and so good...

They have an awful location in Fayetteville, but do a booming business anyway. If it were located midtown or downtown, I think it would do even better.

I lived in Little Rock a while, and while its not Fayetteville (i.e. there are parts of LR you avoid due to crime) it has its charms. The riverfront is really great, the River Market has really taken off in the past 10 years. Overall its a nice medium sized city.

I miss the river in LR, the great trails along the river. Other than that, there's nothing in Little Rock better than Fayetteville now. Maybe a few more good restaurants, but thats about it.

Chester was the name of the guy driving the hearse. Went to undergrad with him. He used to DJ at Stephanie's if I remember correctly.

I've tried to talk my wife into moving back to Fayetteville, I haven't convinced her yet.

The OPO on the square is a great night spot to observe the finer sex, dance to some club beats and have some adult beverages. If a change is needed, walk over to Tremors...a two storied club. River City and Doc Murdocks is two two two clubs in one! On College Ave.

I miss those days, or miss being that young and free.

My wife brought up moving to Fay out of the blue Friday night. I almost choked on my salad fork. Leaving Dallas would be a freaking dream come true.

I believe this:

Fayetteville is like Austin was in the 1980s.

We have a great local music scene, two closeby festivals (Wakarusa and Mulberry) a good jobs base to let people stay here after college. Its not so big that traffic or crime is a problem, and we're basically overrun by hippies. Hell, the entire city government is hippies now. Try and cut down a tree without a permit. Try to build something without planting a thousand trees and following form-based design codes.

Oxford reminds me of Fayetteville in the 80s.

Back then, frat culture was more dominant at Arkansas overall. The town had maybe 35-40k people, it was more isolated. I remember as a kid going to football games and seeing the whole student section wearing blue blazers and ties, and being very much a "southern gentleman" atmosphere. The party scene was the frat scene.

That all changed in Fayetteville in the early 90s. You'll still see a random blazer and cocktail dress at a game, but the vibe is just a lot different now. There's more students, but there's also enough of an economy so that people just hang out here and don't leave.

The town here has grown up. The downtown is rocking, and there are different areas that have gentrified and gotten cool at the same time. Clean tech businesses are moving in, etc. The arts scene is great, and only getting better and more sophisticated...

Not just Fayetteville but all of NWA. That said, there is just something about being in Fayetteville that I love.

I don't think it is simply nostalgia either.

I'm having a hard time describing it.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Arkansas fans; and Fayetteville is a pretty fun place. I won't make it this year, but you should have a great time

Oxford has changed so much in the few short years that I've been here.
Back when my uncle was still in school here (2000,2001) There was nothing in the town. The entire school was Greek. there were 11 or 12 thousand students. There are 17k students now (almost as big as UA) and hell of a lot more diversity. Our minority student population % has tripled since then.
We have an incredible study abroad program, that brings in a ton of international students, and sends our students to better schools.

We had no music scene 5 years ago.
Oxford (as well as the country as a whole) is on a huge upswing in terms of cultural development.

Fayetteville is a great place because of the people. People care about this city and love this city, and so they take care of it and protect it.

Its a mixture of what makes any great city great, but mixed in with a lower-midwestern/upper south Bible-belt mentality of abiding by the Golden Rule.

In short, people are nice here. People are also socially conscious.

Mix that with the scenery of the Ozarks, four distinct seasons, and lots of outdoors activities, and there you have it. Its hard to describe, but not if you really think about it.

I lived in Dallas for 5 years. It was okay, if you don't mind feeling completely disconnected from nature. Thats tough on a boy from the Natural State.

Here, you have a slice of big city fun, but all you have to do is drive over a hill and catch a glimpse of the Ozarks rolling out into infinity to remember how beautiful this planet is.

Which reminds me, I've got shite to do. Its 85 degrees and sunny.
