C.J. Mosley is likely the only priority of the linebacker scholarships we've offered, along with Craig Sanders being the prototypical "Jack LB". Devonta Bolton, who we signed last year, will likely re-sign this year as well. Linebacker isn't exactly an area of need for us at this point.

you cant offer a scholly to somebody and when they dont choose your school say, 'oh, we didnt want/need him" anyway

If u didnt want or need him no scholly would have been offered, period.

This isn't true. A lot of times scholarships are offered, but the coaching staff will not accept a commitment from them. This happened to several individuals last year - including Johnny Farms, who ended up signing with North Carolina I believe. Scholarships are also offered to players as a way to "keep the door open" to certain areas or schools. It's a way to build relationships with coaching staffs for future prospects, or teammates of the individual. College coaches do this every year - including Auburn.

u dont have to be a recruiting expert to know, if a team offers a scholly to a player, that team wants that player to come play for them. is that not true?

Go ask that on the Recruiting board. LSU offers all the time but they are not COMMITTABLE offers until They choose LSU.

Ohh ok, so what you're saying is that, if Jawara White chooses Bama this afternoon, Saban is going to say, no we dont want u to come.

Is that what you're saying?

We wanted him desperately. He's the key to our entire class. If he signs at Auburn, Alabama will have nothing at LB.

Not if there's a BETTER guy ahead of the player on the coach's recruiting list. All things being equal, what would you rather drive? A Corvette or a Taurus? They'll both get you where you need to go, but the Corvette is far more superior right?

No. Scholarships are also offered to guys as "backup plans", in case priority players decide to go elsewhere. Auburn has done a lot of that the last two years.

For example, in 2008 Auburn accepted a commitment from 6'1 220lb Center from 2* Dax Dallenbach whose only offer was from Auburn, and Freddie Smooth - a big offensive tackle from Baton Rouge who had only one other offer from Division 1 schools. "Back up plans".

I'm no recruiting expert, but I have never heard of this guy. And he's not listed as having an offer from Bama on tidesports (doesnt mean he doesnt have one, though). I think he knows if he did get an offer previously, it doesnt stand anymore. Not a knock on Auburn at all, but Saban can't sign 30 guys this year. Anytime you get a top 10 player instate (which Auburn needs to focus on given their recent lack of success) its a good thing. And to the guy that said Bama fans didnt want Bobby Massie, I never once heard that.

Do you think Auburn would have accepted commitments from those guys if say, Tyler Love or someone similar had decided to go to Auburn?

CFBfan has really spread himself too thin by deciding to expand from his chop block thread empire. He's clearly a high schooler and to pre-empt those attacks, he will ask 5 people in each thread "LOL how old are you, kid?"

Sure we did. The vast majority of us said that he was a great pickup for Auburn. None of us, however, expected him to pick Alabama - as he grew up an Auburn fan.

White is a good player and a good pick-up for Auburn. Congrats to the Tigers.

Linebacker recruiting doesn't rise or fall with White. For 2010 Bama is recruting 9 other linebackers; took 2 last year (Jonathan Atchinson and Nico Johnson). We are loaded at linebacker.

There are so many good/great players ... nobody will get all of them. With Saban, Alabama will get their share and more.
