79th and 107th in pass defense last year....
Well Clemson finished 73rd and ECU finished 110th, not sure who's stats are correct. But you're right, he did exactly what he was supposed to do. If he would have struggled, then there would be some concern, but he was very effective. And let's not undervalue his performance against Clemson IN Death Valley, a top ten team. Thompson's 310 yards against Clemson was the 4th most yards they allowed. Only Glennon from NC State, Manuel from FSU, & Boston College's QB put up more yards.
Also, the 397 yards we put up against ECU was the 2nd most yards they allowed (330 of them by DT, which would still be good for 3rd).
So really, his performances really dropped Clemson's and ECU's passing defense numbers. Basically, if DT wouldn't have put up the numbers he did, Clemson and ECU would have been a lot higher than 79th and 107th.

And also, you forgot to include Michigan, the 5th best pass defense in the country.

52% completions?
Yeah that is the one thing he needs to improve on. I'm not exactly sure why its so low, he only threw 2 INTs in 127 attempts.

Thompson's completion rate is low because his throws are mostly downfield. Shaw throws many more shorter passes, hence the 67% completion rate.
