is SEC basketball underated?
Somewhat. But Tennessee is really the only surprise team. Heck, Florida was ranked #1 and everyone knew Kentucky was loaded with young talent so if anything they have underachieved. Georgia definitely overachieved considering our pre-season ranking. Ole Miss was decent but Missouri definitely underachieved.

We lost nearly all our good OOC games
Missouri before they went off the shite end beat a UCLA team who is still playing.

the teams not playing in the NIT will say the conference was properly rated, the teams playing in the NIT will say we were underrated

Thanks for that broader data view.
How did Illinois get in the NIT? I thought they were dragging bottom in the B1G. Did they get hot at the end?
Final Fours by conference / school - historic (not just in past year or so)
ACC : 18 North Carolina, 15 Duke, 3 NC State, 2 Georgia Tech, 2 Maryland, 2 Virginia, 1 Florida State, 1 Wake Forest
B1G : 10 Ohio State, 8 Indiana, 8 Michigan State, 5 Michigan, 5 Illinois, 3 Iowa, 2 Purdue, 2 Wisconsin, 1 Penn State
PAC : 17 UCLA, 4 Arizona, 3 Cal, 2 Oregon St, 2 Stanford, 2 Southern Cal, 1 Washington, 1 Washington St, 1 Oregon
SEC : 15 Kentucky, 6 Arkansas, 4 Florida, 4 LSU, 1 Mississippi State, 1 Georgia
B 8 : 14 Kansas, 6 OK St, 4 Oklahoma, 4 Kansas State, 2 Colorado, 1 Iowa State
SWC : 3 Texas, 2 Baylor, 1 SMU
Big East : 5 Georgetown, 5 Syracuse, 4 Uconn, 3 Villanova, 2 St John's, 2 Providence, 2 West Virginia, 1 Pittsburgh, 1 Seaton Hall
Metro : 10 Louisville, 6 Cincinnati, 5 Houston, 1 Memphis, 1 VCU, 1 UNC - Charlotte
MWC : 4 UNLV, 4 Utah, 1 Wyoming
WCC : 3 San Francisco, 1 Santa Clara, 1 Seattle
I would make the argument the "big six" - conferences that should get 4+ teams in a 68 team tournament is:
ACC
B1G
B12
PAC
SEC
B E (once they finish raiding the A 10)
SEC should get at least 4 every year, even if the 4th gets knocked out early.

Picked this up from another board so it's unaudited, I assume it's close to accurate.
