For football? We're not even good enough to be Nebraska, that's insulting to them

We don't produce the in-state football talent needed to make aggressive and frequent runs for the SEC. Unless something in our NIL changes, and/or AR high school football improves (which could be a process that takes a generation, if it ever even happens), this is likely how it's gonna be for us from now on. It sucks because football is the most loved college sport by a considerable margin, especially in the south.

But for basketball? AR actually does produce a staggering amount of good talent. We should never be bad at basketball, and if we ever are, it should be nothing at all to get a great coach to want to come here. It shouldn't be seen as career suicide like football apparently is seen. Our problem seems to be the same song that all the Arkansas fans are getting tired of: meddling, out-of-touch, attention whore boosters, and the curious resistance to being competitive in the NIL. We seem to be doing basically the opposite of Ole Miss in NIL, and it's showing.

Musselman's little run of back-to-back Elite Eights and a Sweet 16 was the best in the SEC. It's not like you can't win here. We hired a coach who was a HC in the NBA, and had consistent success at a college mid-major instead of just one flash in the pan successful year, or one first round tourney appearance. And what do you know, when we made a hire that made sense, we were good again. I don't know what happened with Muss and why he wanted out. It's likely drama with the AD/boosters again. But winning can happen here, that's never been the question.

We should compete for conference/national implications almost every year in basketball and baseball. And as sad as it sounds, we should at least be making a low end bowl every year in football. And if you don't have the top-end success in football when you're in the south, then you can't be underwhelming in the other two.
