From one of his speaking engagements this month, he started talking about how he was at a camp in Florida when he was the DC at Central Florida. There was a DB in one on one drills who kept jumping up wanting to get back to the front of the line. He was kinda small but Chizik noticed him as a kid who loved football. He went up to him and asked him who was recruiting him and the kid said nobody. Chizik offered him on the spot and he accepted the Central Florida offer. He went on to start all 4 years at UCF and is now one of the highest paid DBs in the NFL. The player was Asante Samuel.

Here's another interesting Chizik story...he came in with crazy depth issues and beat Bama's arse until the last 2 minutes in his first season...as opposed to Saban's first Iron Bowl when he never lead a second..

Here's another interesting Chizik story. He offered the top players in Alabama, and they said no thanks
seems LaDarius Owens and J-Rich said no thanks to Alabama and Auburn has the #1 player in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi on board as well and can still get the #1 player in Texas and South Carolina.

Not nervous at all. I think he'll turn out to be a good hire, but if anyone is nervous about the Chizik hire I think it is Auburn fans.
They fired Tubby thinking they would go out and make the "Saban hire" and they struck out for the most part, including the embarrasing plane landing this time last year.
I think Gene Chizik is a good man and a good coach, he's just in a bad situation right now, facing an uphill battle.
Also, fwiw, if you are going to post cute, little Gene Chizik stories you are going to get some smart arse answers. If you want sunshine pumped up your arse go to ITAT.
