Chavis only returned 6 or more starters on the Defensive side of the ball twice out of the 5 years you listed. Looks like the attrition was killing his defense. Add that to the fact those are some of the years Cutt was gone, and their offense was hit or miss.

I noticed this, but a program like Tennessee has a hell of a lot of depth. Players having to wait 3 years to play makes you have this kind of attrition on a year in year out basis.

Glad to see you again.

I would expect your defense to improve for that fact alone.

That's my point about Chavis. That shite can help a defense out when you aren't mass-subbing after every season.

After this year, how many do you lose? If you return less, do you expect to be better on D the next year?

Brick Haley and Ron Cooper are both fantastic coaches. Probably two of the best coaches you'll find to coach Defensive Line and Defensive Backs. They should fix up LSU's defense quite a bit over the next few years.

Lets be honest here.
Sabans defensive backs are gone now.
Whoever was coaching them was doing an awful job.
Improvement is on it's way.

I know this can help, but it's not a definite that the next guy in line can fit the bill even if they are one of the most talented on the team. They could be dumb as a stump, and take a while to get the defense down pat.

I'm glad to see you're still stirring the pot. I've enjoyed the read the past couple of days.

The "how much" improvement is what's important.

We lose 5 if no one goes to the draft early or leaves the team.
2010 is a rebuilding year for sure.

There is something to be said for having one guy in charge of the defense. The problem with last year's LSU defense may have been the dual DCs.

At least that is what I've heard from the LSU fans I trust.

Let's put it this way.

If you had a good DC leave your program, would you want 2 guys who had NO experience running a major-college defense being co-dc for your your school?

Just let that sink in.

I agree.
Ole Miss has benefitted from having a bunch of 3 and 4 year starters.
You know what you're getting when you put those young players out there early.

Even at Ole Miss I would at least expect an old washed up coordinator from coker era Miami.

Man, I hear ya. I couldn't believe those two guys got the job. I was complaining to someone about it after they were first hired, and they said well the coach has won a championship. So, he should have the right to name the coach or coaches without question.

I didn't say anymore about it until after the first few games of our season when MS State was putting up 17 points on our D, and they could have tied it had that FB for State hadn't dropped that ball. I knew we had problems when Woody MCorvey was engineering a Offense to decimate our beloved D.

I knew we were going to beat you after that game.
I knew we were going to beat Auburn after their game with state too.
Watching LSU fail that badly against two awful teams who failed badly with themselves really gave me hope last year.

I'm not arguing that chavis isn't an upgrade. He's a fine hire.
I'm just saying that some folks need to curb the enthusiasm

Why do you give a shite if LSU fans are enthused about a new LSU coach?

So exactly what are the stats suppose to mean? That Chavis is going to struggle?
Points Per Game is similar to what LSU allowed when the won it all in 2007 right at 20.
I know the Yards per game was like 288 or so.
