The funny thing is that while endowments play a small part, the revenue you make off of merchandising, TV contracts, and etc are a far bigger piece of the pie.

And FWIW, you apparently have to file a Freedom of Information Act to get most athletic department's endowment numbers (see the Penn-Gazette having to do so to get Penn State's). Or at least that's the impression I'm getting from my Google search.
