Our last national championship was year 16 of our coach

He said it "very rarely" happens, not that it never happens. And besides, the world of college football circa 1980 was a different animal compared to the world of college football in 2021. Far more emphasis is placed on winning a national championship now than it was back then. Coaches at power programs are on a much shorter leash due to how much money they make as well as how much money is involved with the sport overall. Vince Dooley's overall salary (when incentives and other goodies are factored into it) was $400,000 in 1980. Kirby Smart's base salary is nearly $6.5 million.

What does all this mean? Instant gratification is more of a thing now than it ever has been. It was easier for Vince Dooley to coast along for the majority of his career because the man wasn't earning THAT much money and he was winning at a decent level. Some 40+ years later, Kirby Smart can't afford to do that.

C'Mon Man

I would think the QB will get better and better but using stats from those games might not mean a bunch.

He looks the part.

Outside of JT Daniels being injury prone they don't have any weaknesses and should win a National Championship.

Daniels ain’t that good. Georgia gonna lose at least 3 games this year.

Perhaps this is the year, but Bama still has the better overall roster. Can’t find the link but I believe I saw where Bama would be favored by 10 points at a neutral field.

If Clemson thought like that they would still be looking for their first NC.

Kirby's first-world problems are on game day.

We just fired a guy who went 10 years without winning a SEC championship...thats a pretty long leash and Dooley never had a 10 year drought.UGA has traditionally had a pretty long leash (Ray Goff 7 years)

Let's face facts,Saban has changed the entire dynamic when it comes to measuring success at "power" schools. Its not necessarily the money.Every single big 6 school not not named Bama has had a coaching change since he arrived along with A&M and not getting past Saban was one of the main reasons.

No idea what this has to do with my point and I highly doubt we go belly up vs LSU had we played last season and while losing in '18 sucked it didn't prevent us from going to the SECC and we all saw what LSU was in '19 and I have no idea why a Bama fan is dick riding LSU to prove a point about Kirby.

Kirby is in high cotton at UGA. There is no Elvis moment (now or never) because he will continue to have top talent every year.

I do hate to lose our 1980 jokes though when he does win it all.

I was in Athens in 76 for that 21-zip azz whipping the Dawgs put to Bama and I am still made about that.

Okay. And the year before Burrow laid a giant goose egg in Tiger Stadium.

And Saban is actually pretty spotty when it comes to facing Heisman winners, in their Heisman seasons, at Alabama.

Cam Newton (2010) - Loss
Johnny Manziel (2012) - Loss
Kyler Murray (2018) - Win
Joe Burrow (2019) - Loss

Moreover, his long ball sucks and is highly inaccurate.

In the four games he played in last year, he averaged 5 completions of 20+ yards or more. I think his long ball is fine.
