Let's say hypothetically that Alabama and Oklahoma are #1 and #2:
BCSCG: Alabama v Oklahoma
Rose: Oregon v Wisconsin
Fiesta: ? v ?
Sugar: ? v ?
Orange: Florida State v ?
Sugar picks first since they lost #1 as a tie-in. They pick LSU.
Fiesta picks 2nd after losing their tie-in. Oklahoma State or Texas A&M.
Then comes the final rotation. This year it's Fiesta>Sugar>Orange.
Fiesta likely picks the best B1G team available. Let's call it Nebraska.
Now the Sugar Bowl picks, and there are still two auto-bids left: undefeated BSU and the Big East champ. If it's a three- or four-loss Big East champ, the Sugar Bowl probably picks Boise State.
Not too unlikely.
In short, if the Big East champ is not all that great, and Boise State is undefeated, the Broncos are going to New Orleans.

Boise State is a very good program.
I'm not denying that, but I believe the strength of schedule argument is being presented the wrong way. Boise was the better team for almost all of their 7 out of 8 wins that you were talking about. No one is questioning their ability to win one or two games a year.
The example I'm going to use is 2007 LSU. I don't think there was a team in the nation who could hang with us at the start of the season. VT was not as bad as we made them look. Even Moo State was not as bad as we made them look. Then injuries started to set in from playing hard physical games every week. Then, LSU lost to a middle of the pack(that year) team in Kentucky. Right after we had just had an absolute slugfest with Florida.
That is what SEC fans are questioning, can Boise, after playing an elite team, go out the next week and beat another elite team(not saying Kentucky was that year) or even a decent team after the physically and emotionally draining war that games between top teams end up being.

My answer is no. The truth is actually undetermined because they play in a crap conference.

I agree with you that they can't do it. However, it seems unlikely that we will see one way or the other in the forseeable future.

I get your points, and they're not bad, but nothing you say makes BSU anything other than elite. Nobody can argue otherwise without the "if they played these teams" argument. "If" doesn't count. "Did" does.

I understand what you are saying but without BSU playing other Elite teams in the regular season then I have a tough time calling them elite.
They are what they are. A good team that has a great record in a crappy conference and a great bowl record. That may be elite to some but to me it's just not enough.
There's nothing else for them to do so I understand the logic of your defense of them but I don't understand why you care so much.
ETA: The "if" is what makes talking about sports so fun. If Arky was in the ACC they would be terrific.

no i just don't care enough to continue on in circles. You wanna think upsets in sports never hpapen and the better team always wins be my guest. But it's a stupid opinion just like everyone has told you.

I never claimed they weren't an elite team. What I'm claiming is they aren't on the level of the top dogs of the SEC.
How many losses would a team like Alabama or LSU have if they had played Boise's schedule the last 5-10 years?
My problem with Boise isn't really with Boise, more with ESPN whining constantly about how they deserve a shot at the MNC. I understand that you agree with me here.
Also, Boise with 3 losses would have been 4th or 5th last year. The media loves Bama too much to rank Boise ahead of them if they both had 3 losses and a similar schedule.
Since Boise doesn't play a strong schedule, they don't deserve a MNC shot unless the SEC champ has at least 2 losses and other conference champs(barring one other team of course) all have at least 1 loss.
Even then, it's a tossup, depending on the strength of schedule and nature of losses of teams involved.
