What's so hard to understand. The Rose Bowl committee presented the Rissman Trophy to Alabama Jan. 10, 1935.

The award was presented during the football banquet in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 10, 1935. Pictured are (from left to right) Alabama Head Coach Frank Thomas, Alabama Team Captain Bill Lee, O. Elmer Anderson, acting president of the Tournament of Roses, President of the University of Alabama Dr. George Denny and Jack Rissman, the donor of the trophy.

So Many Trophies, So Little Space

I believe the Rose Bowl and Rissman may have quit the Dickerson system. Rissman started associating his trophy with the Rose bowl winner, not some random Big 10, Pac 10 team that Dickerson wanted.

You'll notice that Rissman himself is at the Alabama trophy presentation.

Dickinson System.... (Seems he favored the Northern teams and handicapped the Southern teams.)

In addition, Professor Dickinson announced in 1932 that "differential points" would be factored in for an "intersectional game", with ratings of 0.00 for East schools, higher points for "Middlewest" (+4.77) and Southwest (+1.36), negatives for the South (-2.59), the Big Six (-2.60) and the Pacific Coast (-2.71).
