He was a UT grad and former law professor and was director of the infractions committee for awhile. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Law professor at the University of Texas and a member of the NCAA Infractions Committee, then a member of the NCAA Appeals committee until the late 90s.

Major difference is Bama at least understands that the conference as a whole is very important. Texas doesn't get that at all, it's definitely a me and only me thing, while Bama is me and you, but me before you whenever possible type of thing.

Every time teasips lost momentum to an in-state program, they would conveniently get audited by the NCAA infractions Committee. Texas is the scummiest program out there.

I feel like for all the cheating they did, nothing came of it.

And who are the most penalized NCAA programs? What is their relationship with the MFing longhorns? It's no accident.

It just kept them relevant until they found their next DKR. They have lost so many advantages they once had. It's really pathetic that they couldn't do more.

Pooor Bama. They's innicent I tell yew innicent. It was dat SEC commish and dat rascally Fulmur and dat bad ole NCAA what did Bama in. They's innicent.
Damn son the Cult is strong with you.
We did wrong no doubt and I'm not saying we did not.You are missing the point. The Big XII conf. Commish would have told texas to stay away from Means, would you not agree. See, I think the Means deal helped bama in the long run, we got rid of bunch of hanger on's when it happened and then Saban finished them off.

I see no comparison really. Bama may be excellent at positioning themselves and using their weight, but there are too many programs with too much history for Bama to just roll over everybody like TU did in the Big 12. Nebraska saw the writing on the wall immediately and finally got the nerve to leave. Kudos to them, along with CU, A&M and MU.

He sure acted like he did. Maybe he was under pressure from his employer.

yea bama was all for adding A/M and Mizzou, no doubt. While texas and Ou wanted a smaller conf. so they did not have to play conf. championship game, crazy....

Isn't there a DMN article from the 80s where tu got caught cheating like crazy and nothing happened to them?
Posted on 5/28/13 at 4:59 pm to Bamatab
I haven't read any responses. Only the OP.
My answer is its not comparable. Here's the difference...there is no Big 12 without Texas. A&M, NU, Colorado, Missouri all leave and it's plug and play. It's a diminished league, but its still a league. If Texas leaves the Big 12 cease to exist. And they know it. And they know most Big 12 schools, especially Iowa St, Baylor, and Kansas St, would never get into another BCS conference. They'd be mid-majors. So now, Texas has them by the balls and controls their votes.
In contrast in the SEC their are 8(?) major programs (Bama, LSU, A&M, Arkansas, UF, UGA, USCe, Tenn). No one team is greater than the conference. Sure Bama is the bell cow but the league survives and thrives even without them.
Saw an article a while back on the most powerful people in college athletics. The only school AD on the list was Deloss Dodds and the Big 12 commissioner was the only BCS conference commissioner not on the list (Slive was #1 btw)

Yes. In fact, the DMN suddenly became a lap dog for the sips. It was the weirdest thing, like mafia weird. I remember seeing an article about Dan Beebe trying to get the employees of "one unnamed program" to rat out their bosses, but they were visibly frightened, and afraid of being MURDERED, Beebe's words, not mine. One guess who Beebe was referring to. Just speculation, but.

I'm not sure if that's accurate. Every school should do what's best for itself. Texas just has so much power they take it to extremes. Bama is kept in check by other cash cows UF, UGA, Tenn (AU and LSU are blue bloods themselves but seem to have less political clout)

Ok, you're gonna have to cite that. This is pretty significant if true
