Pods pair up on a rotating basis?

Year 1, the East is 1 & 2 and the West is 3 & 4.

Year 2, it's 1-3 and 2-4.

Year 3, it's 1-4 and 2-3.

Was wondering about scheduling as well, could see this working sort of like the NFL as follows.

3 games vs your pod
4 games vs paired pod
2 games total vs other pods 1 per pod

4 ways to pick that opponent possibly

1 - vs team that finished identical spot to your team previous season

2 -sort teams in pod based on preseason rankings (yeah, I know they suck) and play identically sorted teams in other pods

3 - permanent opponent per pod

4 - rotational opponent per pod

1 works in the NFL because teams typically stay relatively constant from year to year. I think it is more volatile in College football outside of a few programs due to attrition.

2 almost seems reasonable until you look at how awful preseason rankings have been at times in the past.

I expect it will be 3 or 4 but who knows.

Playing every team in your pod and the other rotational paired pod effectively creates two division with rotating members, which I personally find quite intriguing.
