Since the award began being given out at the inception of the SEC, only eight players have managed to repeat as player of the year. Tebow split the 2009 POTY award with Mark Ingram after winning it outright in 2008. It still counts. Herschel Walker remains the only player to threepeat.

Jackie Parker, QB, Mississippi State (1952/1953)

Johnny Majors, TB, Tennessee (1955/1956)

Billy Cannon, HB, LSU (1958/1959)

Hershel Walker, RB, Georgia (1980/1981/1982)

Shane Matthews, QB, Florida (1990/1991)

Danny Wuerffel, QB, Florida (1995/1996)

Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas (2006/2007)

Tim Tebow, QB, Florida (2008/2009)

Don’t know much about Jackie Parker but the rest are legends.

I would have never guessed Shane Matthews.

Not too surprising. It was right when Spurrier took the SEC by storm and there wasn’t a lot of offensive firepower in the league in those years.
