Bama played at Lafayette Louisiana several years ago, helping to further their recruitment efforts in Louisiana.

It was a two for one deal. People don't want to schedule Alabama OOC. BAMA had to make a deal to get the games done.

1.) This deal guarantees 2 future home games vs. a Group of 5 team. Since the rest of the SEC refuses to entertain a 9 game conference schedule, Saban wants to schedule two Group of 5 teams per season. Many group of 5 teams don't want to sign up for one-off road games against Alabama, and Alabama doesn't want to do to home and home against a Group of 5 team. 2-for-1 worked perfectly to check several boxes.

2.) Alabama recruits heavily in that area, and this only enhances exposure.

3.) NFL stadium will accommodate the fanbase better than Duke in 2010.
