They're not tearing out the existing turf. They are overlaying the new deep cut sod over the old. It's the same thing they did prior to the Bama-UT game after the 2009 Rose Bowl.

Link? All reports I have seen and the game announcers saying removing existing turf and laying down new thick sod turf

That actually is an interesting story for anyone that watched the 2010 game. Also, there's big money in high quality turf. Not sure why jackasses that go to shitty schools try to act like anything involving agriculture is below them and their worthless liberal arts degree.

I think it's just what everyone assumes when you say " new turf".

There's a PDF floating around telling the story of what they did the last time they had this quick turnaround between the Rose and title games. Don't know why they would do anything different when it worked so well before.

Sammy gets it..

You guys beat Oregon handily in 2010 had Cam not slipped numerous times. All positions had trouble with it but Cam seemed to fight with it more due to his shoes / long stride or something..

The guy that runs the company in California that licenses the sod from State says you can't use the existing sod because of Rose Bowl standards. Too much paint on field. You could never remove it all to look attractive. So the answer is to throw it all away. We shall see. It seems excessive but that surface is the symbol of the Rose Bowl so it will be perfect when they play Monday.

Auburn is pretty decent with high tech grass too. But sure, thanks. If it's better than what they have right now, thanks.

They were not the one that sodded Glendale. That turf was actually on a movable surface that grows outside I believe. Then they roll it back in for play. The problem with that turf was it was over saturated?

Bad thing is -- we no longer have MS Choice on any of our fields(at least not the football and baseball fields). There isn't a licensee on the eastern side of the country anymore -- and it wasn't worth it to bring it all the way in from Cali.

Apparently ridiculously popular over there though. Alot of additional places use it than the article explained...

This is what they did in 2010,

Was successful then so not sure why they would do something different.

Hell yeah. I'm at State getting my masters in turfgrass science.

Mr. Philley is still at State. I do a lot of work with him.

Very popular in Arizona. They call it Bull's Eye or BOBSod out there. BOBSod because it was used in the Bank One Ballpark (BOB). The company who originally licensed it changed from MS-Choice because they said it sounded like a cut of beef.

It is one of the most shade tolerant bermudagrasses out there (which still isn't very shade tolerant compared to other grasses). Grows very dense and produces a lot of thatch, which is why it is popular on sports fields. Thatch will give you a lot of cushion and prevent injuries.

There is still some MS-Choice in the Rose Garden out at the North Farm. It's so soft to walk on.

From what I understand people from Lexington care quite a bit about grass... and snow.
