Didn't realize since 99 they have had only 2 seasons not finishing 8-4 (if that list is accurate) that's wild. No other fan base has to feel so close yet so far away.
Nuts ATM was part of the big 12 and the sec through that run and still finished 8-4 almost every season

You missed a part:
ended with an 8&4 record (.667) or worse
Plenty of 4-8, 6-6, etc during their seasons.

To rub salt into the wound, since A&M has been part of the SEC, they have the 3rd or 4th best conference winning percentage in the conference, without even a conf title game to show for it.
A&M as a highway metaphor is basically like driving I-70 through Kansas. There are no surprises, no hills and no bends in the interstate. I would think Auburn is our opposite. Seems like they either win <=6 games or >=9 games most seasons. They rarely finish 8-4,
To be honest, I don't know which situation is better. Knowing you are almost always going to win 4-6 conference games almost without exception, or having some <3 conference win season with the occasional surprise year that puts you in the championship game - albeit that seems to be rarer and rarer for Auburn these days.

2012 is the only year above 8-4 in 21st century. One out of 25
