What sort of penalty should Mississippi St. expect to face as a result of Bama getting caught on this infraction?
Major or minor...it doesn't matter, its still an infraction and Mississippi St. will have to answer for it.

You are completely full of shite!!! It is based on a combination of birth date and specific auto dealership clearance sales. These guys don't get to just choose whatever car they want, they get what is given to them or they can go buy their own damned car.

If I drove over to AU this weekend and took pictures of the athletic parking lot, what would I find? Or any parking lot at major football programs across the country?

The real answer is, we take them out for a ride around Ttown when they first visit. We place camera's on the outside of the car and the inside looking directly into the eye of the recruit.
Then we measure the excitement of their eye contact when certain things pass by. (We look for wide eyes, or the raising of the brow) When these eye movements are made, we simply match the times up on the inside and outside cameras to find out exactly what the recruit was looking at.
We can begin to understand what type of girl/car/food and in some cases, cough cough,(julio) we can tell what type of guy they want. We make all of our decisions based on these videos.
It's a stretch, but it works.
