Unlike their equally giddy and rightfully so neighbors at that school up north after Ole Miss beat Alabama the week before, they didn't storm the field and take down the goalposts. They kept their heads and kept their seats.

Now that is classy.

It's not so much a hate for him as a hate for what he brought with him. I was sick of hearing about it and I'm sick of hearing people bitch and want to bring him back.

We still have Col Reb stuff, but I don't want him roaming the sidelines.

The colonel wasnt racist. Blind Jim Ivy. NAACP made him racist. Never did the colonel bring a noose to the games looking for black people.

Colonel - Wasnt racist.
Rebel Flag - Not racist
Dixie with love - Not racist.

Even as a State fan, this is one of my favorite songs played by a SEC band.

Doesn't matter what they original stood for. What matters is what they were perceived to represent...and that was racism. They had to be done away with .

I think they should put the Colonel back on the field and promote him to General.

People have claimed the words "Ole Miss", refers to a slave woman calling her master. I guess Ole Miss should bend over for this too. Do you see how stupid all this is? I don't care if it sounded racist, and how it looked racist. It wasn't and all they did was stroke the fat cats cocks up north to please them. They had zero clue about Ole Miss customs and traditions and they shite all over it and you people let them. but hey, congrats on the black bear.

y'all really have to get Admiral Ackbar...he's a rebel and something unique. i know..."it's a trap"

but the average ACT score would jump up about 15 points with the next class coming in...

Of course not, he was a mascot. He wasn't a real person.

Blind Jim Ivy.

Nice tokenism you've got there.

NAACP made him racist.

Wait, I thought we just agreed that he wasn't racist...

That's a pretty funny standard for racism you've got there.

quote:

Colonel - Wasnt racist.
Rebel Flag - Not racist
Dixie with love - Not racist.

I think we established (Did we? Dunno, you contradicted yourself.) that a mascot can't itself be racist, just as a flag - an inanimate object - cannot also be racist. Same goes for a song. But these things can represent racist groups, ideas, events, etc.

Why not just make him General War Eagle. There, he's yours. You can have him.

2d verse of Dixie begins with Ole Miss;

the Miss part is not an abrieviation for Mississippi...

Ole Miss is the Lady of the Plantation, regardless of age...

Truthfully, I don't hold it against the Rebs charging the field. In the situation it was. It's fun giving them shite about it. State probably would have is LSU had been in Starkville. I really wasn't pointing that part out in the story.
And to barners as the story points out if the bells aren't ringing when they aren't suppose to then it can't be an unfair advantage. Suck it

I still have hats and shirts and stuff with the Colonel. I think I'm with Wandering Reb in that I think using him as a primary symbol of the university isn't what we want as our image.
