Will Florida ever win the East under Billy?

Will Florida ever be in playoff discussions in November, under Billy?

Between FSU, Miami, UCF, and Florida, will Florida ever be the best team in the state, under Billy?

Is this Florida's new normal? "Let's just get to a bowl game"?

It's a rhetorical question, I know Florida has higher goals than that.

But you know you can't do it with Billy.

So how long are you going to hang on to him?
He definitely needs to get the recruiting turned around and it will take several cycles to build momentum. Its not like Georgia was world beaters when Kirby arrived it took him years to get the dogs on top.

Kirby did win the SEC in year 2.
First one since 2005.

But that is just a detail. Nothing big.

Kirby Smart went 8-5 in his first season with losses to Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vandy, Florida, and Tech.

Are you implying that Billy is going to win the SEC next year, make the playoffs, win the first playoff, then come one play away from winning the national championship next year?

Because that's what it sounds like you are implying.

Did you think that Kirby and company were going to do what they did in year 2?

Two is plural; so, years is a correct term.

Yes, I did believe year two would be much more successful.

At the time:

Jacob Eason took his freshman lumps, ready take a step forward. (That's not how it turned out, but at the time, there was reason to be positive).

Nick Chubb and Sony Michel both decided to come back for their senior season.

Isaac Nauta was coming off his True Freshman All American season.

Signed #3 consensus recruiting class, hadn't broken the top 5 since the 2009 class.

And with a coach that had 1 year under his belt. Not just his first year as HC at UGA, but his first year as a HC anywhere, at any level.

There was a lot to be legitimately hopeful for.

Does Florida or Billy have any of that kind of stuff going for them heading into Season 2 of the Napier era?

It's his first year and first years have never been very predictive one way or the other.

Well it looks like the only rebuttals are "maybe he's the next Kirby Smart".

Yikes.

You could at least be more subtle when trolling.

Or the next Urban Meyer. Or any one of the many other championship coaches that had an up and down first year.

Basically, "he might be good, he might not." Which is a very common analysis after most coaches' year one.

I don't know, but the year one data at this point is not that different than the data on Kirby's year one.
