development and got lucky with 3 star defensive recruits who turned into stars.
At what point does it stop being luck and start being good evaluation and development, asking for a friend?

Because Mullen is an offensive coach. I gave him all the credit for evaluating and developing the quarterbacks but he wasn't the one developing the defense. I'm not trying to be salty just setting expectations for recruiting

I was just making the point, he won’t be around for long if he recruits at a Mississippi State level.
His transition class last year in only 2 months was ranked higher than any class he ever signed at Miss State.
This class will finish in the top 10. I don’t think you’re gonna have to worry about him recruiting at a Miss State level. He’s already surpassed that.
He’s already near matching his highest win total ever at Miss state in a year 1 rebuild, he’s already at the ceiling that there was a Miss State, and he’s doing this with a team that won 4 games last season. Just imagine what the possibilities are for him here. The future is extremely bright.

He won’t make it 9 years here doing that shite. He knows the expectations, he’ll either get it done or he won’t. He’s got 3 more years, thanks for the warning.
He;s doing a bang up job down there so far. I don't think gator fans are going to complain one bit so far.

Honest question. When Spurrier and Meyer were at Florida where were their classes typically ranked?

What if I told you he always told us he was interested and the only reason he didn’t go to State was because Mullen’s entire recruiting pitch was we are cheaters and how badly oxford sucked. Reality was different. We are cheaters and Oxford is okay. Really creative recruiter marketing team in Starkville.

Urban's were always high. Not sure about Spurrier since Rivals only goes back to 2002 but he was always known to be a lazy recruiter, especially in comparison to Bowden.

This narrative that Mullen didn’t get elite defensive guys is bs. He got Boyd and Cox on the dline I’m his very first class after the croom disaster all the way up to Jeffery Simmons and the kid from Louisville last year whose name escapes me.

Maybe he learned from his mistakes,
He will recruit just fine, Florida has more to offer than Miss State, not talking cash, just more of everything.
How did Florida lose to Missouri! Now two in a row! Also in blowouts!

Gotta suck as a State fan knowing with that Defense if they still had Mullen they may have made some noise this year.

If only there was some way to see his results vs. his previous team, like if they played -- especially if it was a hostile environment. That would really tell us everything we needed to know.
Imagine if he won as the away team against his previous school and how much weight that would have.

When did Mullen ever achieve to that point when he was there? Been there too long and failed!

MUllens first class ended up being very strong. Especially if you include the two big transfer gets. Dean, Jones, Pierce, Jefferson, Grimes, McPherson, etc have made immediate impacts. Seems he is doing well so far. See how he closes out this class.

I’m sure the head coach is allowed one home visit per recruit. Mullen had his home visit and could not visit again. On signing day AJ commented Freeze made him more a priority and Mullen did not come see him enough. It should have been a follow up question, but it wasn’t.
AJ Brown has been incredible for Ole Miss. I wish him the best. I hope he has 200 yards receiving and 1 touchdown and State wins 40-7.

Besides taking your school to their highest ranking ever? Remember who you are man. Not many 5 stars are knocking down the doors in Starkvegas

Dont feel bad when we flip Pickering

Mullen is no recruiter but one helluva manager and coach. i.e. taking a dumpster fire of a program in Gainesville and turning it into a winning one again.
Also, the two highest paid lineman in the NFL were not 5 stars. I would say Mullen can recruit better than AJ Brown.
