The NCAA made the decision for LSU in the case of Katrina and the SEC made the decision in the case of Rita. LSU wanted the game to be played on Sunday that year but Slive overruled them.

I'll buy that. Bottom line is that LSU's 2005 season was affected by two hurricanes. The first caused LSU to travel to Arizona to play a HOME game. The second caused LSU to play on a Monday night.

LSU never tried to weasel out of having to play a game that year. They bent over backwards to make sure they would get all the games in. University of Florida in 2016 not so much.

Florida’s position from the start has been that the uncertainty of the hurricane’s path, combined with the unknowns regarding what kind of damage to the local community and public services it might wreak, necessitated the game be postponed.

Oh was that Florida's position, really? I seem to recall something more along the lines of "WE WILL PLAY ON SATURDAY IN GAINESVILLE, PERIOD".

This is what's known as "revisionist history".

Comments from both Florida athletics director Jeremy Foley and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey have indicated frustration with Alleva for drawing a public line in the sand that LSU would play a home game on Nov. 19 no matter what.

I'm glad the original person who drew a line in the sand (Foley) somehow is absolved of blame for doing the same thing earlier in the week.

Also, the storm was so dangerous that the women's volleyball team traveled to Columbia, SC on Saturday so they could play there Sunday.

Finally, here are the forecast maps from Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Monday 5PM:
Tuesday 11 AM:

Wednesday 5 PM:

Gainesville was in the cone of possibility from MONDAY. Yet, Mr. Safety, Jeremy Foley, drew a line in the sand that the game would be played Saturday at Noon in Gainesville until the Thursday morning conference call. Yet, LSU is to blame for this mess.

The fact that it took Foley 3+ days to realize that Gainesville could be hit makes it clear why I've written that he was either ducking the game or incompetent because he's unable to read a forecast map.

This Bama fan knows without a doubt that UF was trying to get that game postponed so the injured UF players could get healed up. It is blatantly obvious and its gonna backfire big time on Nov 19th. LSU is gonna beat the piss outta Florida.

I don't see how those emails are an embarrassment for LSU.

Joe Alleva has never been more popular in BR than he is right now.

I don't see how there's much dispute that Foley fricked it up. I guess both sides acted like dipshits during the initial rescheduling discussion, but Foley was a little bitch about it from the get-go

As public pressure mounted to get the game played, Florida relented.

Florida’s position from the start has been that due to the uncertainty of Florida's injured defensive line and quarterback, a loss to LSU was likely, and therefore it was in Florida's best interests to avoid playing the game entirely.

THIS. Florida is the only team that should be embarrassed. They clearly didn't want to play the game that weekend and tried to back LSU into a corner that would have stuck us with three SEC road games within 12 days (think about that) to end the year.

Fortunately, our AD has some balls and we leveraged our position for a better solution. That's how its done, people. Alleva gained a lot of respect from this.

Answer how every other team involved in the state of Florida managed to play a game? How did ND play a game in North Carolina during the same storm?

Hell, WE played and Matthew actually did make landfall in SC. We made arrangements to play Georgia on Sunday and had that fallen thru or had it not been possible, I guarantee we would have found some way of still getting our game in and in a timely manner. Furthermore, last year during yet another natural disaster that almost obliterated Columbia (the massive floods) we DID go to LSU and play our game as scheduled. We may have sucked major arse last year (and this year) but we are anything but pussies who are afraid to step on the field and play anyone. So I see absolutely no valid reason why Florida couldn't have done it when we DID do it....2 damn years in a row, at that.

The storm was never really a threat to Miami or the SW coast of FL. There was a brief period when the eye may have passed over South Palm Beach County but Miami Dade was not in danger. So U of F and Miami could play their home games. UF had to wait until Thu or Fri which meant that it would be too late to know the path of the storm. Plus a bunch of Police agencies said it was unlikely that they could commit police to the game. I am no UF fan but I understand why the game was postponed. When the storm passed without little affect to the Gainesville area, it's easy to arm chair QB but if the storm hit as a class 4, there is no telling how much damage there would have been.

USA Today hack has some sort of beef against LSU. Such an unfair, biased, and demonstrably inaccurate hit piece makes it so. From his Facebook:

You had that Ole Miss douche, Shepard Smith, whipping people into a frenzy by telling them if they did not leave, they would die. I understand the delay in playing the game, because of emergency personell who might be needed elsewhere in the state, but I do not understand why LSU is being castigated as the bad guy here, when they made numerous offers to make it work out, but the Florida AD would have none of it. Florida gets two home games straight in the Swamp against LSU to make up for it. So financially they are not being hurt. They get the advantage of having a more healthy rested team to compete with the newly reformed Tigers.
Bama fans don't show your ignorance and bias by trying to make LSU look bad here, because most of us see it their way. They at least tried to make it happen, and they were right to not have to give up a home game because of a storm 400 miles away. Give it rest.
