It doesn't go through the PA system, it's a speaker he has standing in front of the stands.

The head male cheerleader or whatever he is has a mic that goes to 2 speakers on the ground facing the student section. I'm guessing the ESPN sound crew was standing over there. The cheerleaders don't use the stadium speakers, those are reserved for bad rap songs and other cheesy shite.

ah ok that makes sense, so it was just one speaker and ESPN was stupid to have a mic close to it and make it sound like it was louder than it was

granted, they're in the endzone. any good parab mic op shouldn't be that far away from the action
