Well if you really want to go down that trail, LSU lucked into a win at Tuscaloosa and was painfully exposed in the NCG. I don't like how Alabama got there and I certainly don't like the result, but the reality is they really were the best team in the nation that year.

So there.

If we did not have the talent then your point is well taken. Our problem has not been talent. Our problem has been coaching. CNS is a disciplined genius, plain and simple. CLM (whom I personally love) is a loveable rogue who lacked the discipline or the drive to match CNS. He only caught him off guard a few times early in the series but CNS learned and adapted. He built a team to defeat his greatest threat at the time, LSU. And if LSU ever wants to rise to prominence again they are going to have to kick in the door that is Alabama. They are the greatest obstacle for LSU at this time. Reminds me of Bum Phillips back in the day (I am a huge Steelers fan but I loved the guy).

Look asshat, I get what you're trying to do. The simple fact is, take Bama out of the equation and LSU is one of if not THE dominant college program of the 21st century.

We have the misfortune to be the program that has to beat the Saban machine and the SEC bias every year as well as hold up against a division that has been tougher than any other conference in the nation year after year. One slip up and we're done, and our guys have known that the Bama game is the de facto MNC game every year and we've still got to go play ARK/A&M. Say what you will about those guys, but they get up for the Tigers year in and year out when we often don't have a whole lot left to play for.

Please take an unbiased eye and put any of the other programs you consider "elite" in the SEC West over the past 10-15 years and tell me LSU isn't their equal.

I'll wait.

Couldn't help myself, I had more to say!!

You have to love the entitlement of the current Bama fan, and their claim to "elite" status. I don't recall a lot of elite BS during the Shula/Price/Dubose/Franchione era. Face it, you caught lightning in a bottle when the CFB GOAT left LSU, sucked arse in the NFL and came back to same division because his job had been filled. The CFB landscape is littered with "Elite" programs that have fallen on hard times. PSU, NEB, MIA, USC ring a bell at all???

Things can change overnight in CFB, see Baylor.... LSU with the right hire and CNS hanging it up could put the shoe on the other foot for the next decade.... Enjoy that ride while it lasts I suppose, because I, much like you with this idiotic post, will certainly enjoy trolling my Bama bros about their fall from the "Elite" when it inevitably comes around.

To me, LSU football is basically Negan and my program is the Hilltop.

So what am I'm trying to do exactly? I didn't put period of time nor did I put if LSU gets this or that coach. I asked do you guys still think LSU is an Elite program. It was open question dumbass left to spark conversation on a message board and by the length of this thread it has. Honestly some of you guys are so sensitive and some are cool mofos LSU posters. For the record I consider LSU a "Potential" Elite program who is a coach away.

I really can't wait until Saban retires. The Bama fricks are insufferable.

And, just in case you were actually looking for an unbiased opinion (which I know you weren't, you asshat troll):

Sporting News top programs since 2000

But by all means, keep trying...

Nice try, but your OP is an unmitigated troll attempt. Don't crawfish now and try to say you consider us a "potential elite team". Since 2000 you are 9-6 in bowl games including losses to the illustrious Golden Gophers, OSU and the Utes. Ride that wave while you can bro, nothing lasts forever.

Well...it doesn't help that we were on major probation for much of that period. I think the only years we weren't were between 1999-2001.

1995-1998; 2002-2007 were all years in which we were suffering from heavy NCAA sanctions brought upon by some piss poor decisions by the guys at the top.

In retrospect, elite programs, like those "blue bloods" I talked about, is a different category than elite teams.

Louisville's team this year could probably be considered elite, and conversely, I doubt anybody considered Alabama elite from 2000 to 2007.

Nothing much about nothing. It's semantics anyway. Mental masturbation, even.

This is very easy....

Elite program? Yes. National appeal, big games, gameday, recruiting, nfl draft, win/losses.. all that goes into it.

Elite team? For the last few years not quite.

The fact it took almost 3 full pages for this simple concept to finally be presented is so, so sad.

I disagree. As previously noted, LSU isn't in the category of elite programs, but have in some years been an elite team, and most surely will be again.
