Can someone explain the logic behind this idea? Is it that the thought that the virus will not do well in the heat? Just seems contradictory to everything that’s been done to move the season up rather than back.

If so, it's not a very good thought process. All evidence so far points to this virus doing well enough in hot, humid weather to still be a problem.

I think another part of the thought process is that, if Trump goes through with an early re-opening, a summer kickoff would allow for some games to get played before the inevitable resurge of the virus in the fall.

This reasoning is flawed on multiple fronts, though. Pence and Dr. Fauci don't hold Trump's enthusiasm when it comes to the timeline on re-opening. That, and universities won't follow the re-opening timeline if it's deemed unsafe. The SEC cancelled its sports way before the federal government and even most state governments were issuing guidelines.

Play the games after the 1st wave and before the 2nd wave. This is really the only feasible option to get a season finished. Lets hope they reconsider and do this radical plan.

Great post. There are some real boneheads here who have no conception of how bad the Coronavirus Pandemic is and will, sadly & tragically, ultimately be. It is the most significant worldwide event of my lifetime and I'm 67. It is the single most economically disruptive and expensive event in world history. The idiots that think this is all going to suddenly go away and everything will return to normal are fools. In many ways life will never be the same again.
