Sigh.
Explanation
A player cannot grasp, pull, twist, or turn an opponent's facemask.
A player must immediately release an opponent's facemask if they grasp it.
If a player controls an opponent by not releasing the facemask, it is a foul.
If the defense commits a facemask penalty, it is also an automatic first down.
A player may be disqualified if the facemask penalty is flagrant.
Note the term facemask is used. And you can touch the facemask if you immediately release it. The play in question never had his facemask touched. It was incidental contact to the head at best and hands to the face as described in the ncaa handbook until about 5 years ago as a 5 yard penalty. However that hasn’t been enforced in years. Just like the 12 men on the field call that was called when UGA made a late substitution and the Vol players did not spiny off the field.
It was a random arbitrary flag with no rule to support it. Strictly the refs protecting the home UGA team. And if you had a basic understanding of the game, the rules, and the crew calling the game we wouldn’t need to have this discussion. It’s nuanced and you are simply incapable of understanding it. But it’s not your fault, it’s poor or difficult genetics and your inability to overcome them.
The last word is yours.

This is the rule:
No player shall continuously contact an opponent’s face, helmet (including the face mask) or neck with hand(s) or arm(s)
Your guy failed to immediately release it. Thats always a foul.

Cool, now she can afford to shop wherever Mulkey has been getting those sparkly jackets.

Go watch the play. Incidental contact. He never pulled, turned, or used the head to control the player. Look at the 2024 rule book, not the NFL rule. Again, nuance is beyond you. That was a most a 5 yard penalty.
Here’s the actual rule:
Helmet and Face Mask Fouls
ARTICLE 8 a No player shall continuously contact an opponent’s face, helmet (including the face mask) or neck with hand(s) or arm(s) (Exception: By or against the runner) [S26]
b No player shall grasp and then twist, turn or pull the face mask, chin strap
or any helmet opening of an opponent It is not a foul if the face mask, chin strap or helmet opening is not grasped and then twisted, turned or pulled When in question, it is a foul
Since he did not grasp, twist, pull it is not a penalty.
***** Source 2024 NCAA rule book page 102 of the PDF.
Nuance. But it’s not your fault.

Watch the play. He never pulled. He never touched the facemask.

Wandered into last page of women's basketball thread to see if any talk about basketball and find arguments about face masks.

Where do you see him pulling? I see his hand open, if anything he’s attempting to stop the helmet from coming off. Maybe the UGA player should learn to us a chin strap.

Pulling the lower part of the helmet, which is a foul.

Put your video doesn’t show that, look at it this time instead of just believing it’s what you were told.

In the video, we see the vol player grasp the helmet with his fingers and pull it, and then it came off. David copperfield didn’t make it happen. Your player did.

With the tips of his fingers with them extended? Physics doesn’t work like that. Especially when he is moving the other direction from the helmet.
Chin strap issue, not a penalty.
I know the analysis of a short clip is too much for you, have your grandmother explain it to you.

Yes. His finger tips gripped the helmet and you can see the helmet move as he pulled it. His helmet doesn’t come off if it’s not pulled.

I was curious as to how this thread about women's basketball reached seven pages so I jumped to the end. Somewhere along the way it devolved into a football discussion.
Carry on.
