Is there a press conference going on or something?
I think Spurrier had one scheduled at 2:00 pm EST today.

Yeah. It's a teleconference from what the OP said.
The ESPN link says he dislocated his knee, but does not mention if there is ligament damage or not.

I will just say, that I thought, C.J. Mosley career was ended against LSU last year in the bcs Championship game and he had a dislocated Hip and it was ugly as hell... Today he maybe our best Def. player....

If you believe what Spurrier said then you are crazy. Dude's knee is destroyed for the time being. I mean I don't understand why they are trying to avoid telling the public the truth.

I am neither however I have suffered aa dislocated kneecap. The rehab is not very long if there is no other damage which I doubt. Should be back 100% for next year if that is all however if he had cartilage damage like I did he's looking at 2 years before he can run as well as he will need to. That being said my injury was very rare. Overall I would say it is very good news pending an MRI

I think you are probably close to what his injury may be

The ONLY thing Coach Spurrier would offer in his media teleconference today was that Lattimore's leg was NOT broken, but was dislocated at the knee and was popped back into place. He offered the doctors said there was good chance that Lattimore would be able to resume playing FB again in the future, but that it would be late 2013 or 2014 before that was expected. Lattimore has 2 years to play his final year of college ball, and the decision will be up to him.
THAT'S ALL SPURRIER WOULD OFFER. Doesn't mean that there is'nt more. Any additional info about the injury will have to come from the team physician who operated on Lattimore, Dr. Guy. Reports are Dr. Guy will release a full detail on Lattimore's injury later today.
There could be further tissue damage, such as tendons and ligaments. Just because Spurrier didn't say anything about that, doesn't mean they didn't happen.

A dislocated knee is not the same thing as a dislocated kneecap. The kneecap really isn't that bad. Lattimore dislocated his knee, which basically means he tore most or all of the ligaments. Whether they mention ligaments or not, it is impossible to dislocate the knee without tearing multiple ligaments. From the pictures, it is possible he did not tear the MCL, but I'm certain he had to have torn the ACL, PCL, and LCL/posterolateral corner.
Also, this is much worse than Mosely's hip dislocation. Once the hip is put back into place, it is usually very stable. As long as the blood supply isn't compromised, there is typically no residual disability.

Also if it was just a matter of a dislocated leg being popped back into place, I highly doubt that it would take possible a year or more to fully recover from that. It took Lattimore 9 months to recover from his ACL injuries last season, and he was back on the field. I'm sure there are more injuries....

What RC says is correct. A dislocated knee cap isn't the same as a dislocated knee. A dislocated knee is a medical emergency because of all the neurovascular structures that run though there. They can easily be compromised. This is a very serious injury and I am sure many ligaments were torn with it as well. He is going to have a tough road ahead of him, but it can be done. Especially a kid like Latt, if anyone can do it he can.

Right...it is those things that basically keep the lower leg and knee in place to begin with....

Isn't this like his third severe injury since he's been at sc?
Posted on 10/28/12 at 1:56 pm to ConwayGamecock
This is another way of saying it, but just thought I'd toss it out...
He's clearly got a long road of recovery. I have seen people compare it to McGahee's injury as well. People are just speculating right now.

CBS Sports is saying that he is believe to have McGahee like injuries. McGahee had ACL, PCL and MCL injuries and required multiple surgeries.
I hope it's not that bad and he can recover fully. What a shame.

Might want to refer that to your blogger friend who didn't relay info very accurately if Spurrier said there was no break but wouldn't confirm anything else. The quote from the blog says he "hasn't heard" is quite a bit different then what you said in your post.
As far as the knee cap comment, which I'm assuming was directed at my post, the point I was making was that you typical have tendon damage with "just" a knee cap dislocation and this was about 10x that. I wasn't saying he dislocated just his knee cap. Was just illustrating that with such a severe looking injury it'd be shocking to not see damage. And that the media coverage didn't jive knowing that.
So maybe we're not the ones that need to calm the frick down.

Only the 2nd....suffered an ACL injury vs MSU last season. In 2010, he missed one game with a slightly sprained ankle suffered vs UK, and was injured early in the bowl game vs FSU and suffered a mild concussion and skin lacerations in his mouth, but that's it....

USC team doctor Jeff Guy said a press release will be sent out later this afternoon detailing the extent of Marcus Lattimore's injury.

It was probably in reference to the poster that said they dislocated their kneecap and thought it was the same injury.

Cautiously optimistic, but I doubt his knee did what it did yesterday without some type of ligament damage.
