I'm sure there are plenty of walk-ons and non-starters around the SEC with more impressive resumes
There are probably better judges of academic prowess than football coaches too. I doubt this award will be the deciding factor on Ryan's future employment.

I knew McElwain would win COY, however I still think it should have been Saban.
COY is just too often the coach of a team who showed major improvement one year to the next.
A lot of the times that is who should win it, but sometimes, like this year, I think Saban did the best overall coaching job. After the Ole Miss game nobody expected Alabama to win out and pretty much do it comfortably (outside a scare against Tennessee)

I thought Ballard and Maye had shots at defensive player of the year.

Same as Reggie Ragland for DPOY. Good player but not the SEC's best defender.

He is VERY good, but there will be 2 or 3 SEC guys taken ahead of him in the draft.
Nkemdiche, Hargreaves and maybe Floyd.
Ragland is definitely a first round guy.

He is a finalist for numerous national awards and was named a 1st team AA. IMO Barnett is the 2nd best.
Also what does an NFL draft projection have with him deserving the award or not?

Maybe I'm just bitter that our honor-roll, aeronautical engineering major, quarterback who gave up his summer on campus to take an internship with Pratt and Whitney was passed over for a marketing major.

There may even be 2-3 Alabama defensive players taken before him. Ashawn, Reed, and Allen all have a shot. Ashawn is the most likely Bama player to be in the top 10 overall though.

Did Kirk end up having a good season?
I didn't watch any of his games other than when he played us, and he didn't participate against us (Unless you consider 10 yards participating).

Not sure.
He didn't do anything against LSU, either.

Yeah, but coaches love them some linebackers. Quarterbacking the defense and all that.
