So you’re understanding is that people just now started having this conversation? It’s been going on since 1964. And yes, there were other organizations that named a national champion, after the bowl games. That wasn’t a secret.
Notice how some people are actually capable of having a conversation, without reducing it down to the Jr High level. But hey…you do you.

People can cry about shite all they want to. You have men these days claiming they are women. The reality is however, much different than whatever fantasies they dream up.
And the fact of the matter is National Championships were awarded in early December after the regular season was over.
Bowl games were played nearly a month AFTER national championships were awarded. Hell, teams like Notre Dame wouldn't even play in them until they became official games.

I don't troll.
You are the one getting upset about being called a dumbass. I don't know how old you are, but I was raised with the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me". Where as kids today are taught "words are violence" and that they should be hurt and offended by everything people say.
We may not be the same, and I don't care.
I don't think anything about it when someone calls me a name, and vice versa. If it's all someone has, then it's not a real argument, but I provide arguments with it. If someone calls me a dumbass, I take it to mean they think my opinion is really stupid, I don't take it personally.
And I don't take the topic personally, but it is one of my favorite topics when it comes to college football history, and I'm not a perfect human - I enjoy telling people their opinions are stupid and why.

I can assure you that I am not upset and I took nothing you said, or anyone else here, personally. You couldn’t offend me if you tried, because I don’t care what people I don’t even know, think about me. You explained that that’s just how you talk to people….so be it.
I’m 54 years old, and I was taught the same thing. I suppose the difference between us, would be that I was taught to try to treat other people respectfully…even when I disagree with them. Other than that, we’re probably not real different.
