This is the norm. Granted the cases he has been involved in do not have college football stars.
Is your neighbor in Florida? Cam was plenty old enough to possess a handgun in LA. I don't think they're getting jail time but that would be a pretty big step down from facing multiple felonies.

Yes. His whole point was more about what he sees everyday.
And in La. I think you can purchase at 18, but carry law is 21.

That leaves possession of a firearm by a minor

Even if cam legally had the handgun, possessing it along with weed is a felony.

Actually, it looks like the minimum age in Louisiana is 17.
Louisiana Revised Statutes
CRob's got a hundred problems right now, but being too young to have a pistol ain't one of them.

No he doesn't. Both of these kids will get a half-game suspension vs WKU.

Still too young to carry a concealed weapon. The reason for possession of a firearm by a minor.
To be honest, I don't care if they jail both of them. And my neighbor that I asked is an FSU fan. Was just giving info on what really happens in the criminal justice system.

You have it sorta backwards. Legal to possess at 17, legal to buy from private party too, but to buy from a retailer or CONCEALED carry you must be 21. Also, LA allows for a gun to be concealed in a vehicle without a permit, just not on your body.

The weed charge is small.
The gun charge could also be worked down to be somewhat small.
Together though, they make a pretty big charge. It really all depends on how the DA chooses to go about this. He could hit them both with some serious time, or let them off pretty easy.

Agreed they'll plea down everything but 'possession by a minor' doesn't figure into this deal. Your boy finish law school or is he interning while in grade school, lol

He wasn't carrying a concealed weapon. On body and in vehicle are two different animals in LA. He would have been charged with this in addition, it's a separate law, but he wasn't.

Very true. In Louisiana, your car is considered an extension of your home.

But the problem is they won't.
The DA doesn't like to charge first-time offenders with felonies.
The guy from whom the gun was stolen now apparently "forgot" that he loaned it to him.
They are inexplicably not both being charged with felonies in spite of a pretty explicit state statute regarding the presence of a weapon and illegal narcotics.
Nicky is saying that these players should be "disciplined" not just "punished."
All this translates to them getting off with a lenient (if that) in-house "disciplinary" action. And it is further evidence of the inescapable fact that if you play high level football (especially for Bama) the rules are different than they are for the rest of us.

Absolutely, for a number of reasons
They can be charged for:
1) Possession of a stolen firearm
2) Possession of illegal narcotics/drugs
But not be charged with "the possession of firearm while in possession of drugs"?
That makes zero sense to me. It's like taking an armed robbery charge and deciding the weapon, which was proven to be used in the crime, doesn't count.. and charge them for a lesser crime

Good to see the young men get off and learn their lesson. Looking forward to seeing them play this fall!

Is the armed robber a first-time offender? OR does he play football for Bama? If the answer is "yes" to either or both of them, the law apparently isn't the same.

Likely no suspension or legal charge... that'll teach em.

You didn't say anything about a concealed weapon, you said possession by a minor. Those are two very different issues.
If Louisiana requires a permit to have a weapon concealed in your vehicle, then the age of the person possessing it isn't relevant.
If you're saying it is illegal for him to possess a pistol because he's under 21, then whether or not it was concealed is irrelevant.
