Chizik had no rope because he completely lost his team and it was obvious it wasn't getting any better. We were getting blown out by real teams and getting worse as the year went on. With Malzahn there is still hope. Other than LSU last year Malzahn hasnt been blown out and has competed with the big boys. We improved as the year went on, and as bad as last year looked we were a handful of plays (and maybe 1 player) from at least 3 more wins (MSU, OM, and UGA) and were in the game with Bama until the 4th (their Heisman winner was the only real difference)

Auburns conference winning % the year before Malzahn .000
That still doesn't really tell the whole story. Malzahn was left a good senior class that signed after the 2010 championship. Behind them Chizik left virtually nothing. Malzahn has had a tough rebuilding job in the toughest division in CFB. He's done a good job despite a bust at QB setting him back last year. Bowden and Bryant had it much easier. FSU was an indepent when Bowden took over and he was able to schedule cupcakes to fill up the W column to help recruiting (not to mention the state of Florida blowing up jn population at the time). When Bryant took over Bama in the 50's southern football was dog shite all around. He didn't have much competition. And rebuilding was easier because he was a master of bending the rules at the time to his advantage. It's a little harder when you can sign 100 kids a year and cut people later than today when you can only sign 25 a year
The more you and Ironspuppet post on this subject the more y'all expose yourselves as total homers who refuse to admit a mistake. Unlike TT Towel, your hardheadedness keeps others from ever taking you seriously.

And they got fired. What point are you trying to make? That Gus is a good coach for AU standards? Cause we may agree on that
So you're saying Dubose and Shula were Tuscaloosa standards?

You can't say with a straight face that coaching in the modern SEC West is equal to coaching in the 1950's with basically no rules or FSU as an independent in the late 70's when every team in Florida magically grew into a powerhouse with the population boom of the state

This is what got Chizik fired.

Exactly my point. Gus definitely isn't on that trajectory.

Dude, let's wait until the season starts before determining if the shite gets worse. Most anti-Auburn posts in this thread are driven on hope and acne medicine.

quote:Auburn won a NC 3 years before Malzahn became HC and he was considered to be the brain behind that championship. Auburn still had a good bit a talent when he took over and just being in the SEC West gave him a step up on other programs when it came to recruiting. It's been no one's fault but his own that he hasn't done better.

AU's recruiting class rankings (according to 247):
2010 - 6th (3rd in SEC)
2011 - 5th (2nd)
2012 - 11th (4th)
2013 - 10th (6th)
2014 - 6th (4th)
2015 - 8th (5th)

So much for that hot seat talk, SIAP
Are you saying this proves he is not on a hot seat?

Are you denying that? The state of Florida grew exponentially in population around that time. Florida was an also ran in the SEC before the 80's. Miami and FSU were nothing before the 80's and became national powers in that time. These are facts. Bowden took over in 76. Do you honestly think that didn't help and it's just a coincidence? You're an idiot

To be fair, Shula had to put up with all the scholarship reductions and was coming off of a 10-2 season.

Gus right now. He is the right guy. Just needs a few breaks.
Did he use all of breaks in 2013?

His stock was indeed high at the time. I still think he didn't "deserve" the ax at the time he got it. The only thing he really did wrong was not beat Auburn. I guess you screw over anybody to get Saban and his results, but just think you were and arse hair away from ending up with Rich Rod instead

He had to go. 6-6 in year 4 is unacceptable and he didn't have any title or anything to boost his stock.
And the senior class didn't get a single win over Auburn.
