The story broke way back-
Yes, it did. Tennessee also received a letter of inquiry "way back" as well. Auburn hasn't even gotten a LOI at this point. If you can cling to hope that MSU is completely innocent in all of this, Auburn fans have just as much right to cling to hope that they are as well.
What likely happened is a bidding war occurred for Cam's services. Auburn outbid Mrs. State. Your boosters got butt hurt about losing and reported it to the SEC/NCAA after he signed.
Just because a School is the one to report the incident, doesn't mean that it did nothing wrong. There's a good chance Mrs. State isn't innocent in all of this and everyone knows it. Mrs. State just isn't catching the heat Auburn is, because Mrs. State is irrelevant in most fans minds.

I'll cling to what Roger's and Bond's attorney said that they werent' questioning State or Auburn but about Cam's dad.

No, what likely happened was cecil wanted money and State boosters/coaches said no and that bridge was burned. Auburn was a last minute go to plan and cam probably went there without cecil asking for money.

no, just Auburn fans hoping this.

Because the big question is if Cam is/was an eligible player after the NCAA makes that determination.

How many MSU coaches, boosters, and payment plans does it take to say no?

What happened...
Rogers was doing what he does, and has been reported to do with many other players. He makes a living soliciting funds for players. This is what he tried with Newton.
Rogers presented this to Mr. Newton, who went along with this for a bit. Rogers was trying to make a buck (or more) off a player like he has done for 13 years.
Anyone who believes Rogers has been helping players out of the goodness of his heart is a complete fool.
Mr. Newton felt the solicitation could hurt Cam's eligibility. Ties were cut with MSU, and he went to Auburn.
Mr. Newton did not go on Cam's official to Auburn.
Auburn was notified, and requested more info from the SEC for clarification if this could be an eligibility issue. The new AD at MSU did drag his heels on this because he wanted to make sure MSU was not going to be caught in the crosshairs. The NCAA is investigating to insure no wrongdoing was done by MSU.
There is no sting, no dramatic conspiracy theories, no REC behind this. Nobody's school is going to burn. As far as the universities go, neither AU NOR MSU have done anything wrong.
Rogers is NOT an MSU booster. The FEDS are involved because of him....also why the MS Secretary of State is involved.
I know the other stories are much "sexier" and provide much more entertainment value, but this is how it is.
If it were not for Rogers, Cam would be in a MSU uniform today, that I will tell you 100%.
MSU just got screwed by a rogue ex player.
So MSU...stop blaming AU.
Auburn fans...stop blaming MSU and Bama.
It is absolutely INSANE to see people on here and their mob mentality. Rabid fans bases.
And, I guess I get it. If this was Bama....or UGA...or LSU....I would be on my knees PRAYING all the rumors were true. I get it.
The one who is to blame in all this will be taken down soon enough....and that is Rogers.

I want to ask you a question. I will preface it with the obligatory, I hope we really learned our lesson the last time and are on the up and up now. Here's the question:
Do you think there's a chance we bought last years class?

Solid post, augirl. Obviously the gossip with lies, delusional connections, conspiracies and "sources" is more fun than rational explanation.
The wackos here think:
1. Trovon Reed was at any point in time wavering in his commitment to Auburn. Reed was solid to Auburn, but was under a lot of pressure from his coaches and family to stay home.
2. Colonial Bank recieved TARP funds. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think Colonial Bank received TARP funds.
3. Rich people "Launder money" by giving it away to recruits. Ask Logan Young about that...nevermind, he is dead.
4. Cecil Newton sacrificed his son for the "Church". I guess that makes Cecil Newton kinda like God. Nevermind the fact that they barely put $10K-$20K in the church and it's still not up to codes. Nevermind the fact that none of Newtons are showing any change in financial status. Yes, his church is nowhere near a state where it can be used for services. They only completed some code corrections, to which they had the money in hand in September 2009. I heard they put about $15k into it.
5. Bell had a conversation with Cecil directly about money. (The only person that talked to Bell was Rogers). Bell can't keep his story straight. I think Rogers did call him, but these guys may have done this before....THAT could be what may get MSU, but I hope not.
6. Voicemails and tapes of conversations exist (lol bell admitted that Rogers was the only person that talked.. so even if he recorded the conversation what's Newtons got to do with it).
7. Kenny Rogers, the guy with the golden heart, all he tries to do is help recruits out of the sheer goodness of his heart. He is just a rubber hose. If you believe this, I have land on the moon I will sell you. Several people have come out, both parents of former players and former MSU players themselves and talked about what a sleazy crook Rogers is.
8. The phone was dropped in water.
9. Cecil Newton broke down in front of a 'confidant', and fessed up like they always do in movies. The confidant called CBS news and told them that Cecil Newton has admitted to take money.
10. Cam played UGA game despite NCAA telling Auburn yadda yadda. Look, I also think that winning is important but these deluded nutbags think that Auburn's entire AD staff and coaches would ruin excellent careers and income by throwing Cam in the game knowing that it could end in a bloody disaster. The NCAA DID meet with the Newtons and Auburn just prior to the UGA game. They also had interviewed Bill Bell prior to this meeting. The NCAA HAS NOT recommended nor advised Auburn to not play Cam. The NCAA has nothing that can or will affect his eligibility to this date.
Under NCAA and SEC regulations, any party (be it a school or player) and their representatives are not to speak to anyone about an ongoing investigation. Essentially a gag order, which is why you have seen AU shut up and MSU shut up (don't lump Bell and Rogers in with MSU).
On Thursday...guess who spoke. Cam Newton's attorney.
I was told Thursday morning before he spoke that the NCAA had cleared any question about Cam's eligibility. In other words, Cam's eligibility is no longer under investigation.
But this investigation is not closed, but it is at this point focused on Bell/Rogers/Bond and their relationships with MSU.
Until the NCAA wraps this up, Auburn will continue to be under the microscope by the public, although they have not been by the NCAA.
Again, take this for what it is worth. I am not going to sit here and claim I have friends in the AU Athletic Dept, NCAA sources, yada yada like others. I know what I know, I know who told me would know, and that is pretty much where I stand.

This is not true- State turned it into the SEC and Slive sat on it. That's why Slive finally came out and started trying to cover his arse.
Slive is catching some shite from the NCAA on this

You fricking morons still haven't accepted the fact that Auburn hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing. NOTHING! Just screaming: "Auburn's going to get crushed by the NCAA" might make you feel good, but it won't make it come true. But if you must, pull that idea close at night to keep you warm. Rub your pecker against it too. It's all you got. Well that an a computer to make your continuous stream of bullshite moronic posts on the subject.

It's been known since September that Rogers has a shady rep from the Greengross complaint. It will be hard to figure out who initiated the moeny talk. Was Roger's being helpful b/c Cecil was giving him a cut? Was Bell? Was this Roger's way of getting an early foot in the door on a potential NFL player? I think in the end it will be Roger's being a rogue agent b/c of the discerning between two finger pointers in Cecil and Kenny.

Cam's attorney is a plaintiff's attorney.
For you dumb arse Bammers, that means he SUES people.
AUBURN was not being investigated by the NCAA.
Cam's eligibility in regards to the MSU allegations were.
Big difference.
