When someone says a basketball team is “long,” they’re talking about the team’s length and reach, not height alone.

A “long” team usually has players with:
Long wingspans (arm length)
Good size across multiple positions
Ability to cover a lot of space defensively

What it means:
Defense: Long teams can contest shots better, get more steals, and disrupt passing lanes
Switching: They can guard multiple positions because their length helps compensate
Rebounding: Longer arms = better reach for rebounds
Shot contesting: Even if a defender is a step late, their reach can still affect the shot
