Are we misreading the Josh Gattis departure?

So... we know that that Nick Saban called Josh Gattis into his office for a twenty minute "tongue lashing" where he had his "butt chewed out." All of which seems like a long time to have a vengeful midget yell at you.

But are we misreading this since Gattis also said that Saban was trying to convince him to stay?

Think about it. Saban was trying to get him to stay. So he gave him a vigorous tongue lashing and chewed his butt out.

I won't fill in the details but perhaps Josh Gattis left with at least a smile on his face.
