If Birmingham isn't that bad then why is their crime score so high according to the link?

This among other reasons is why vans and their owners can't be trusted

It can be a rough town obviously, but personally I've never been messed with. 5 points and all the clubs are a blast. Most of it is gang violence in other parts of town.

It depends on the area in Birmingham. It's not really the UAB Campus or Southside. It's mainly West Birmingham, East Birmingham and North Birmingham that have the high crime rates.

3/4 of the city is dangerous now? I attended grad school at UAB. I felt safe but I have mean face.

. It can be dangerous like I said, but it's a great party town and one of those cities that you kinda have that mentality that "nothing happens to people you know."

"The Magic City" Too many good memories.

UAB isn't that bad. Granted, there have been incidents that the administration never passed along. Example: a girl in my stats class was robbed, at gun point, in front of her dorm (Blount Hall). UAB never said a word about this to anyone on campus.

West Birmingham, East Birmingham and the neighborhoods of North Birmingham are the absolute worst. Actual downtown (where all the big buildings and city hall) are pretty safe, unless you're copper. Last year, the city tree was burned to a crisp after a thief was trying to extract copper from the Christmas Lights.
