Was the civil war really about taxation without representation?
About agriculture based economics vs industrial based economics. The north east was willing to leave the union over tariffs and the lucrative trade the agricultural based south was doing with Europe a generation before the south left over restrictions on trade in raw goods. The South liked sending its raw resources to Europe and the north wanted preferential access to those raw goods.
The slavery issue was not mentioned outside of being a minor rallying cry, a bumper sticker slogan. 3% of white southerners actually owed slaves and the if not for Harriet Stowe and uncle toms cabin most Americans wouldn’t have a thought on the institution.
Letters from soldiers on either side really mentioned slavery (Foote Shelby, and Canton all used letters and accounts from soldiers as primary sources) and in fact when the idea of the war being about slavery the Army of the Potomac threatened mutiny. After the emancipation proclamation was known race riots and lynchings broke out in the north, especially in New York.

Why so many downvotes? We clap Florida’s cheeks on a regular basis live on television for everyone to see. Pretty obvious don’t ya think?

They’re just mad they are irrelevant. Downvotes from losers are basically upvotes

This is a really far-fetched analogy
Not really, crystal meth is hugely popular in North Korea, Biden can make the statement with no authority to actually do anything about it(the “slaves” he freed in the Emancipation were in a foreign government (the CSA) and he had no authority to create law in the CSA), in fact the emancipation didn’t free slaves held in the union(multiple slave states did not leave the union) just like Biden doing nothing about meth in the US. And if you believe him when he said the southern states could not leave the union then the speech becomes a really well done PR stunt because the language used means either he’s de facto recognized the CSA in which he has no authority, or the CSA is illegitimate and still in the union and the words would not apply to them.
I had a couple British tutors that really drilled American Civil War and the Boar Wars so they became hobbies.
