Thank you, not sure youll be able to get all that close. My house was on what esentially is 14th street. Second house on the north side of the street from 6th ave. Had a front porch, that was closed in with white lattice. Doubtful its still there though.
I believe that I might be able to walk to that area, but I know exactly where you're talking about. I'll try and get as close as I can.

Do they have McFarland Blvd cleared enough to drive on yet? I kind of want to drive down that way and see the damage there. I saw the damage around the outside of Tuscaloosa. Sometimes seeing it in person puts more aspect into it.
I don't think they do, but if they do they probably won't let you through. The National Guard is quarantining parts of the city.

I don't know about today but yesterday that had it blocked off at the university blvd ramp and down past the military memorial around midtown. they let us through at the ramp but then we had to deal with the national guard down around milos, and full moon. they let us through there though because we had our friend that lived there with us.
Thanks. I'll drive that way Monday and see. Maybe I can do something to help while I'm down there.

That would be awesome. I know they have had to turn away volunteers at the shelters, but they still need help in the destructive areas. They are giving people gloves that the volunteer station and telling them what areas need the most help.

You do not cheer on something that is actively killing people.
Smart people do not stand in the back of pick up trucks as lightening is taking place.

Awesome. I already have boots and stuff packed. So maybe they'll let me do something. I'd really like to help out.

I can't believe people would actually do that.

At the 3:30 mark, it would have been great if someone had kicked their stupid asses for cheering it on.

Im sure they didnt know the scope of the damage.
Posted on 4/29/11 at 11:11 am to AUnite
you could hear the guy standing on the ground cussing them out for cheering.

This is not good:
Not only is power out, forcing the University to close all but 1 dining hall which is running on limited power, but it looks as though many of the less-fortunate citizens employed by the University are missing

Just got an email from Bama Dining - over 100 of their employees are still unaccounted for. Many live in the Rosedale, Graceland, Alberta and Cresent Ridge areas. Call 348-2382 or email jones-pamela@aramark.com with any information.

Not an excuse. A tornado (no matter the size) = destruction and lives lost. You do not cheer on the death of people.

+1
As much as it sucks that they were cheering I think they were just caught up in the moment of see a huge tornado and not realizing the destruction it was doing.

Well, it does not take a Rocket Scientist to figure out what is potentially happening in that scene.

I give them the benefit of the doubt only because they are young and stupid and they shut up when that dude told them that people were probably dying right then.
Was still shitty and stupid, but lets be honest, thats what being young and dumb is all about. I still would have slapped them though.

I agree. I cant say that my 18 year old reaction would have been any different. I hope it would be, but Ive done some pretty dumb stuff in my past.

I bet they felt real stupid later that day. Hopefully learned a lesson without losing anyone they cared about.
