You sleep well... You have done an AMAZING job of cheering everyone up, IMO.

I am going to wind down and try to sleep as well.

Prayers to ALL!

Night everyone!

My 1st cousin just moved from T-town 2 months ago because he got transferred by the State Police back to Dothan, his hometown.

I'm sure it has been said many times throughout this thread, but there are lots of heavy hearts right now down here in Baton Rouge and LSU. I'm just speechless.

If I could help, I would. Prayers are being sent!

How do I go about helping? Just show up? Or do I call an organization?

I'm just sayin', but The Super Outbreak of 1974 had 148 confirmed Tornadoes. Today has 146 Tornado reports.

So....Let's have a breakdown of intensity and state....

AND... does this include the straight lined winds that were mixed in with some of the tornadoes this morning? How about the instances where they can't tell what they are yet?

It's most admirable that you want to help, but you can't just show up to scenes like this and be able to help. The guard will turn you away unless you have some strong credentials. Why don't you consider donating blood tomorrow? They are going to need it.
I have relatives in the area. I feel what you do, too. Get some sleep.

Ok,

1. Big

2. All over

They would just add/subtract to the total, but don't look for alot of that.

When they have organized the areas they need help, they will forward the information to the media. There will probably be a campus organized way to volunteer as well. DO NOT just show up. Despite the good intentions, it leads to more chaos, and that's the last thing people need right now.

I couldn't decide if you were trying to say this wasn't as big as the super outbreak...

Nah, I didn't think it was that close, tbh. I thought the Super Outbreak had like 170ish. I never thought I would see something like this in my lifetime. I don't think the Tornadoes from this one will be as strong as the Super Outbreak.

Super Outbreak:

F0 - 19
F1 - 33
F2 - 32
F3 - 34
F4 - 24
F5 - 6

although, April 2011 is the new all-time record for most Tornadoes ever recorded in a one month span.

One of the many things that was so bad about today was that the straight line winds from the morning knocked out a lot of the alerts and power for people. At the same time though, a lot of businesses and schools were closed, and people sort of knew to stay off the roads.

The ones in Alabama were so strong.

Yea, as I've said all day, the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham should be rated an EF-5 in the next couple days officially. Most people are already penciling this in as a EF-5, including many Pro-Mets. Wikipedia has it as a Preliminary EF-5.

This would be the 3rd F-5 tornado I've seen either live on TV, or in person. I saw the OKC one in 1999, and the Greensburg, KS one in 2007. Both in person.

Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the storms. My ex lives about five minutes north of Birmingham, and nobody has heard anything from her since the storm hit this afternoon. Saw it on TV, and I sent as many texts as I could as I was watching it on tv. Hoping that she's okay.

Here are some pics I took of the damage on 15th street in Tuscaloosa:

1) Glad you are ok!

2)You are probably way asleep right now and not sure when you wake up...but I was wondering if we can have your permission to use a few of these on The Weather Channel this morning for Wake Up With Al and Your Weather Today programming..I'm at work now and the digital content team would LOVE to use these ..we would courtesy your real name if you should be so inclined...if you don't want us to use these I completely understand..don't have any other way to contact you but through here

But again, TWC would love to use these for digital and on air content with a mandatory courtesy to you

Please lmk if you get this
